Hello Everyone! Here is everything you need to know about the new update to Pokemon Go!
With this new update, you are able to choose a Pokemon buddy!
You now have the option to have a Pokemon follow you! The Pokemon has an avatar next to your profile menu, and will show up next to your avatar on your profile.
Now this is more than just an interesting aesthetic twist! Having a Pokemon be your “buddy” gives you candy for that Pokemon! For most Pokemon, it’s 1 candy every 3 KM, but it changes per Pokemon. Rarer Pokemon, such as Dratini, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, etc, require 5KM, while Pokemon such as Ratatta, Magikarp, Weedle, etc. require only 1! The full list can be found here! The only downside to this amazing and useful update, is that the Pokemon don’t actually follow you around on the map. The only exception to this is Pikachu, who, staying true to the anime, will indeed walk around with you, until you get to 10KM with him…then he’ll just chill on your shoulder.
It’s important to note that you can’t save your progress if you decide to switch out your Pokemon. If you are .2KM away from getting a candy, and you switch your buddy, you will lose the progress and have to start again, keeping only the candy you have accumulated up to that point.
At least this update is step in the right direction Niantic!
