Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Nintendo held a Pokémon themed Nintendo Direct on 2/27 to announce a new set of games in the series,Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. The presentation revealed the new UK-inspired region, Galar, as well as the three starters; Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey
    • The game is set for worldwide release in late 2019 on Nintendo Switch
  • NetherRealm Games revealed that Johnny Cage will return in Mortal Kombat 11
  • The lineup for fighting game tournament EVO 2019 was revealed, with the following games getting top billing (via http://evo.shoryuken.com/):

    2. Dragon Ball FighterZ
    3. Mortal Kombat 11
    4. Samurai Shodown
    5. Soulcalibur 6

  • Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 are heading to Nintendo Switch on May 21 (via Resident Evil’s Twitter)
  • Blizzard have announced Overwatch‘s 30th hero, a support hero named Baptiste. The character is now available for PC players in the PTR
  • Kingdom Hearts 3 director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed in an interview that the game will receive free and paid DLC in future (via Polygon)
  • A new trailer for MLB The Show 19 helped announce star player Bryce Harper’s signing with the Philadelphia Phillies
  • A listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign remastered appeared on PEGI’s website, following rumors of the game being paired with the latest game coming last year (via Destructoid)
  • Capcom set a release date for Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy for April 9, 2019. The package contains the first three games in the series with touched-up art, and will release on PC, PS4, Xbox one and Switch
  • Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will have its first trailer reveal at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago on April 13 (via Twitter)
  • A new trailer for the upcoming Hellboy reboot (April 12) has released
  • A new Detective Pikachu trailer released this week, showing some more of the plot and Pokemon. Detective Pikachu is set for release on May 10
  • The latest trailer for Dark Phoenix, the newest entry in the X-Men film series, also released. The film is set to release June 7
