Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Nintendo will air a 15-minute Nintendo Direct regarding Pokémon Sword and Shield on June 5 (via Twitter)
  • The Pokémon Company held a press conference with a handful of announcements, including:
    • Pokémon Masters, a mobile spin-off game RPG that allows players to form teams of trainers from the series’ past
    • Pokémon Go Plus +, a new model of the Pokémon Go Plus accessory
    • Pokémon Sleep, a new app developed by to track your sleeping habits
    • Pokémon Home, an update to the Pokémon Bank cloud service coming to Nintendo Switch and iOS that allows players to bring their Pokémon over from past games
    • Finally, their are plans for Detective Pikachu game on Nintendo Switch (via The Pokemon Company)
  • A new map for Battlefield V has rolled out, Mercury, part of its EA DICE’s update roadmap titled Tides of War Chapter 3: Trial by Fire
  • Marvel and Square Enix will unveil its Avengers game at E3 during its press event on June 10 at 6pm PT
    • The game is being developed by Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dyanamics
  • A brand new trailer for Death Stranding, Kojima Productions first game and Hideo Kojima’s first game since leaving Konami in 2015 was released
    • The trailer shows off several new gameplay aspects, as well as character names; including the likenesses of directors Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon)
    • The game releases on Nov. 8 exclusively on PlayStation 4
  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and Sonic Mania are June’s free PlayStation Plus games, avaialble on June 4
  • Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service is coming to Windows PC, with a list of games specifically curated for PC according to Xbox President Phil Spencer (via Polygon)
  • Heavy metal band Iron Maiden is suing developer 3D Realms over its game, Ion Maiden (via Polygon)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare the latest entry in the long running series, was revealed through its first trailer
    • Developed by series creator Infinity Ward, the game is a reboot of the original Modern Warfare series
    • The game supports cross-play on console and PC, and will have free DLC updates rather than a Season Pass
    • The game will see new content launched first on PS4 (via Polygon)
    • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases on Oct. 25 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One
  • Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered has been announced for PC (via the Epic Games Store), PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
    • The game is a remaster is the original game released in 2009
  • Bungie has teased a new content update for Destiny 2, possibly a new expansion to release in the fall (via Bungie)
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has received a new update, allowing some compatibility with the Nintendo Labo VR Kit
  • Larian studios, the developer behind the Divinity: Original Sin RPG series, have possibly teased a new Baldur’s Gate game on the home page of their website (via Larian)
  • Shang Tsung will arrive in Mortal Kombat 11 as part of its Kombat Pack DLC, along with other series veterans Nightwolf and Sindel, and comics hero Spawn
    • Two more characters will arrive with the Kombat Pack to be announced at a later date
    • Early access to Shang Tsung and several new character costumes/skins will begin on June 18 to those who purchased the Kombat Pack DLC
  • Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night revealed a second playable character named Zangetsu , voiced by Metal Gear veteran David Hayter
  • The Last of Us Part II will most likely see a 2020 release (via Kotaku’s Jason Schreier)
  • In movie news, actor Robert Pattinson has been confirmed by Warner Bros. to be the new Batman/Bruce Wayne in director Matt Reeves’ Batman project
  • Disney/Pixar released the first trailer for Onward, coming in March 2020
    • The film stars Tom Holland and Chris Pratt
  • The first trailer for Netflix’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, a prequel series to Jim Henson’s 1982 film, was released
    • The series debuts on Aug. 30
  • The first trailer for The Kitchen was released, based on the DC/Vertigo comic mini-series
    • The film stars Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss and releases on Aug. 9
  • The first trailer for Rambo: Last Blood was released. The film stars Sylvester Stallone in the reportedly-last chapter of the Rambo series
    • The film releases Sept. 20
  • Marvel’s Jessica Jones will air its third and final season on Netflix starting June 14
