Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Overwatch revealed its first look at its 31st hero, Sigma
    • A tank character, Sigma is now available to play on PC in the Public Test Region
  • Nintendo has doubled the amount of courses users can upload in Super Mario Maker 2 (via Polygon)
  • According to an internal memo, Nintendo will repair the Joy-Con controllers of those who’ve experienced the infamous “Joy-Con Drift” in their Switch controllers at no charge, as well as refund those who’ve already paid for repairs (via Vice Games)
  • Team Rocket has arrived in Pokémon Go, bringing exclusive Shadow Pokémon with them to battle at Pokéstops (via Polygon)
  • EA has sent invites to a new game in development from the team behind Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare (via ResetEra)
  • MechWarrior 5: Mercanaries has been delayed to Dec. 10, and be coming exclusively to the Epic Games Store on PC (via MechWarrior 5)
  • Indie games Moonlighter and This War of Mine are free on the Epic Games Store (via Epic Games Store)
  • Kojima Productions and PlayStation showed off a quick look at one of the characters in Death Stranding, Heartman
    • The character’s likeness comes from Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon)
  • Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity is coming to Nintendo Switch on Aug. 8, complete with all expansions
  • This week’s QuakeCon celebrating the 25th anniversary of DOOM featured a new look at DOOM Eternal‘s campaign and 2v1 multiplayer Battle Mode
  • The original DOOM, DOOM II, and DOOM 3 are now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch as well as iOS and Android devices
  • Shortly after the releases, user noticed a requirement to login using a BethesdaNet account in all three games
    • Bethesda will make the login optional in a future update on all platforms
  • Voice actor Christopher Niosi, the voice of the male player-character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, will be removed from the game following allegations of abusive behavior (via Polygon)
  • Streamer and e-sports commentator Geoff “iNcontroL” Robinson has passed away of a sudden illness at 33
    • Robinson was also a former pro StarCraft player
  • In movie news, Andy Serkis, Rupert Wyatt, and Travis Knight are in consideration by Sony for directing a sequel to 2018’s Venom (via Variety)
  • Hulu is reportedly working on A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series (via The Daily Dot)
  • Actress Russi Taylor, best known for being the voice of Minnie Mouse for more than 30 years, has passed at age 75
    • She was also known for her roles in The Simpsons, DuckTales, and 80’s cartoon Strawberry Shortcake
  • The first trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap was released
    • A follow-up to the 2009 horror-comedy, the sequel releases on Oct. 18
  • The first trailer for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a biopic on Mister Rogers starring Tom Hanks, was released
    • The film hits theaters this Thanksgiving
  • The first trailer for Harriet, a biopic focusing on Harriet Tubman’s work on the Underground Railroad, was released
    • The film releases on Nov. 1
  • Thor: Ragnarok director Taiki Waititi’s JoJo Rabbit got it’s first trailer, releasing on Oct. 18
