Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

This pas week saw the 2019 edition of E3, here’s a breakdown of the biggest highlights from each company

EA

  • EA held its EA Play event on 6/8, and revealed a first look at gameplay for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
    • The game releases on Nov. 15, 2019
  • Respawn also showed off new content and changes coming in Season 2 of Apex Legends, as well as a new playable character Wattson
    • The new season begins July 2

Microsoft

  • Ninja Theory announced their first game after being acquired by Microsoft, a 4v4 multiplayer game titled Bleeding Edge
    • A technical alpha for the game starts on June 27
  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps received a new trailer, as well as a release date of Feb. 11, 2020
  • Minecraft Dungeons, a 4-player co-op dungeon crawler in the Minecraft world will release in Spring 2020
  • Blair Witch, a game based in the universe of the Blair Witch movies, was announced and will release on August 30
    • The game is developed by horror veterans Bloober Team (Layers of Fear series, Observer)
  • A new trailer for CD Project Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 dropped, along with the announcement of Jeanu Reeve’s involvement in the game
    • Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on April 16, 2020
  • The first gameplay trailer for the Battletoads reboot was revealed
  • A new Microsoft Flight Simulator was announced
  • Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, a remaster of the PC classic, was announced
  • Along with a new trailer for Psychonauts 2, Microsoft announced that Double Fine Productions will be joining the lineup of Xbox Game Studios
  • A trailer for Bandai Namco’s Dragonball Z action-RPG, now named Dragonball Z: Kakarot was revealed
    • The game is set to release in early 2020
  • Gears 5 showed off a new trailer and multiplayer gameplay for a new mode titled “Escape”
    • Those who preorder will get access to a Terminator: Dark Fate themed character pack
    • The game will release Sep. 10, 2019
  • A new, LEGO-themed DLC expansion for Forza Horizon 4, titled LEGO Speed Champions, released on June 13
  • State of Decay 2: Heartland, a new expansion for Undead Labs’ zombie survival game was announced
    • The expansion is now available
  • Sega’s Phantasy Star Online 2 is finally heading to the West for the first time in spring 2020 for Xbox One and PC
  • Tales of Arise, the latest entry in the long-running RPG franchise was announced for a release in 2020
  • Elden Ring, a new game made in collaboration between Dark Souls studio FromSoftware and Game of Thrones author George R.R Martin was revealed
  • Project Scarlett, the next console from Microsoft, will release by Holiday 2020
  • Halo Infinite was announced to be releasing along with Project Scarlett on Holiday 2020 (as well as on Xbox One)
  • A new trailer showcased what looks like the opening of the game

Bethesda

  • The Elder Scrolls: Blades will release on Nintendo Switch for free, with user able migrate progress from the mobile version this fall
  • Fallout 76 will be getting a free new update, titled Nuclear Winter
    • The update adds NPCs for the first time, new quests, as well as a battle-royale mode
    • The game will be free to play until 6/17
  • A new Commander Keen game was announced for mobile
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo, a new game from Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within series), was announced
  • Deathloop, a new game from Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Prey), was revealed
  • Bethesda also showcased its game streaming technology for the first time, titled Orion
  • DOOM Eternal will release on Nov. 22, 2019
    • A new gameplay walkthrough was shown, as well as a first look at the “BATTLMODE” multiplayer mode

Devolver Digital

Devolver held its third prerecorded parody press conference, announcing a few new games

Carrion
  • Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead was announced as an lightgun arcade cabinet
  • Devolver Bootleg, a collection of 8-in-1 games based on Devolver properties is now available on Steam
  • The Messenger: Picnic Panic, a free expansion to The Messenger, arrives on PC, PS4, Switch on July 11

Ubisoft

  • Watch Dogs: Legion was revealed, and will release on March 6, 2020
  • Adventure Time‘s Finn and Jake are now available in Brawlhalla
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Quarantine, a new PVE-focused entry in the Rainbow Six series was revealed
  • Roller Champions, a new roller derby inspired multiplayer game, was revealed and will release sometime in 2020
  • A new game from the developers of Assassins Creed Odyssey, Gods & Monsters, was announced
    • The game releases on Feb. 25, 2020

Square Enix

  • Square Enix showcased several new tidbits regarding Final Fantasy 7 Remake, including its battle system, as well as the fact that its first release will be set during the Midgar portion of the original game with more games to follow up
    • Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release on March 3, 2020
  • JRPGs Romancing SaGa 3, and SaGa SCARLET GRACE Ambitions will release first the first time in the West
  • Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will release sometime this year
  • Square Enix finished their conference with a first look at Marvel’s Avengers, coming from Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider series) and Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex series)
    • The game releases in May 2020

Nintendo

Nintendo held their annual Nintendo E3 Direct to finish off the conference schedule, and with it came a plethora of announcements

  • Several of the heroes of the Dragon Quest series make their appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this summer
  • A new trailer for Luigi’s Mansion 3 was released, along with the announcement that the game will launch in 2019 on Nintendo Switch
  • A game based on Netflix’s The Dark Crystal prequel series, titled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics releases this year
  • A new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake announced the game will release on Sept. 20, 2019 on Nintendo Switch
  • Collection of Mana, a collection of the three games in the classic RPG series released on June 11
  • A remake of Trials of Mana, the third game in the Mana series, will release in early 2020
    • Along with the Collection of Mana, Trials of Mana sees its first release in the West
  • The Witcher 3: Complete Edition will launch on Nintendo Switch in 2019
  • Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 will come to Nintendo Switch this fall
  • No More Heroes III was revealed, launching sometime in 2020
  • Contra Rogue Corps, a 3D-shooter entry in the Contra series was revealed
  • Contra Anniversary Collection was also revealed, and was made available on Nintendo Switch’s eShop on June 11
  • A remake of Sega’s Panzer Dragoon, first released on Sega Saturn, was announced for release this winter
  • The first trailer for Romero Games’s, the studio created by former DOOM developer John Romero, Empire of Sin released,
    • The game will release in Spring 2020
  • Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo releases in Nov. 2019
  • The long-awaited next Animal Crossing game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will release on Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020
  • Banjo-Kazooie make their long awaited debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this fall
  • To close out the Direct, Nintendo announced that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now in development
  • In movie news, the first trailer for Doctor Sleep was released
    • Doctor Sleep is an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name, which acts as a followup to The Shining set decades later
    • The movie is directed by Mike Flanigan (The Haunting of Hill House) and stars Ewan McGregor as Danny Torrance
  • A new trailer for Disney’s Frozen 2 was released
  • A new trailer for Pennyworth, a series focusing the start of Alfred Pennyworth’s relationship with the Wayne family was released
    • The series debuts on Epix on July 28
  • Quentin Tarantino’s R-rated Star Trek film now has a script (via Den of Geek)
