Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Joker, the protagonist of Atlus’ Persona 5, was released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on April 17
    • The new character came along with version 3.0 of the game, featuring a stage builder, and a video editor for users to create and share content
  • Square Enix formally announced that JRPG Octopath Traveler will be heading to PC on Steam on June 7
  • Sony gave an interview with Wired regarding some of the details of its next generation of console hardware (via Wired)
  • Capcom announced its own entry in the plug-and-play console market, the Capcom Home Arcade. The and availability for the U.S has not yet been announced
    • The console will come with sixteen games
  • Ubisoft released a trailer for its upcoming expansion to Assassins Creed Odyssey, titled The Fate of Atlantis. The DLC will be split into episodes, the first of which releases on April 23
  • Assassins Creed Unity will be free on PC via the Ubisoft Store from April 16 – 23 in observance of the recent Notre Dame fire in Paris (via Ubisoft)
  • The Division 2’s first raid has been pushed to May (via Polygon)
  • Microsoft have announced Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, a subscription tier for Xbox Game Pass that bundles Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass for $14.99/month (via Polygon)
  • Microsoft also announced the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, a discless version of the Xbox One S that will be bundled with digital versions of Forza Horizon 3, Minecraft, and Sea of Thieves
    • The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will launch on May 7 for $249.99 (via Polygon)
  • GameStop has launched a new games return initiative called “Guaranteed to Love It”, where customers will be able to return a game within 48 hours of purchase for full store credit
    • The first game that will be available for this initiative is Sony’s Days Gone (via Cheap Ass Gamer)
  • Konami announced the full roster of games coming with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, including:
    • Castlevania (NES), Castlevania 2: Belmont’s Revenge (Game Boy), Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse (NES), Super Castlevania 4 (Super NES) Castlevania The Adventure (Game Boy), Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest (NES), Castlevania Bloodlines (Sega Genesis), Kid Dracula (Famicom)
    • The collection releases on May 16 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch (via Polygon)
  • Sega announced ten more games coming to the Sega Genesis Mini console, including some surprise 3rd party hits such as Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Earthworm Jim (via Sega)
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will be releasing for Nintendo Switch on July 19 (via Polygon)
  • Reggie Fils-Aime has officially retired from Nintendo, and is showing off some of his retirement gifts and souvenirs on his new Twitter account (via Twitter)
  • In TV/games news, Pablo Screiber (American Gods, Orange is the New Black) has been cast as Master Chief in Showtimes’ Halo TV series (via Polygon)
  • A new trailer for the Child’s Play reboot was released. The movie stars Aubrey Plaza, as well as Mark Hamill as the new voice of Chucky, and comes to theaters June 21
  • The final trailer for Fox’s Dark Phoenix, the latest in the X-Men film series was released. Dark Phoenix releases on June 7
  • A new trailer for Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw was released. The film releases on Aug. 2
  • A teaser trailer for DC’s Swamp Thing series, coming to the DC Universe streaming service, was released. The series will arrive sometime in 2019
  • A fourth Thor movie has apparently been pitched according to actress Tessa Thompson (Valkyie in Thor Ragnarok), and could be directed by Ragnarok director Taika Waititi (via LA Times)
  • Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed development on a Knight of the Old Republic project during an interview with MTV (via MTV)
