Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • This past weekend saw Star Wars Celebration 2019 hosted in Chicago. The weekend included the release of several Star Wars related news stories, including:
  • The first teaser trailer for Episode IX was revealed. The trailer finally revealed the film’s full name, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker
    • The film releases this December
  • The first trailer for EA/Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The developers have reiterated that the game will be single-player focused, and without micro-transactions
    • The game will releases on Nov. 15, 2019
  • A new trailer for ILMxLAB’s Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series Episode 1 , the first in an episodic VR series coming to Oculus and Vive was released
  • Disney+, Disney’s foray into the streaming realm, will launch Nov. 12, 2019
    • Several original films and series will debut on the platform, including a Star Wars: Rogue One prequel series, The Mandalorian, several solo and team-up related Marvel series
    • The service will also host the entirety of the Disney and Pixar film library, as well as Disney and Fox TV series (The Simpsons, etc.)
    • The service is priced at $6.99 per month, or $69.99 annually (via Disney)
  • The official reveal trailer for Mortal Kombat 11’s Kitana debuted
  • NetherRealm Studios also released gameplay breakdowns for Kitana, newcomer Cetrion, and returning character D’Vorah (from Mortal Kombat X) during their Kombat Kast livestream
  • The ability to change your PSN User ID is now live (via Polygon)
  • Destiny 2‘s Spring event, titled Revelry, will launch on April 16
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2, a remake of Yakuza 2 (2006), will comes to PC on May 9. The release will include all released DLC
  • Namco Bandai announced a Nintendo Switch version of action-RPG God Eater 3 will release on July 12, 2019
  • In an advertisement for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo was able to sneak a quick look at a “Stage Builder” mode that could be included in a future update
  • Ubisoft’s Starlink: Battle for Atlas will not be receiving any more physical toy additions (via Ubisoft)
  • A Horizon Zero Dawn sequel is reportedly in the works according to actor Janina Gavankar (Star Wars: Battlefront II, Horizon Zero Dawn) when asked at Star Wars Celebration (via Destructoid)
  • A PC port of the previously Nintendo Switch exclusive JRPG Octopath Traveler will be coming in June (via Destructoid)
  • The second Tetris Maximus Cup in Tetris 99 for Nintendo Switch runs from 6:00am PDT April 12 trough April 14 at 11:59PM PDT (via Destructoid)
  • The first trailer for Warner Bros. Ni No Kuni (based on Namco Bandai’s JRPG series) animated feature film was released. The movie releases this summer in Japan
  • A new featurette for Pokรฉmon: Detective Pikachu was released, showcasing several more of the Pokรฉmon fans can expect to show up in the film on May 10
  • You’ll be also be able to grab a two-pack of Pokรฉmon trading cards during the opening weekend of Pokรฉmon: Detective Pikachu Each pack will feature a card from the Detective Pikachu-themed expansion pack, and feature movie versions of the Pokรฉmon (via Polygon)
  • In other movie/TV news, the first full trailer for Disney’s CG remake of The Lion King was released. The film hits theaters on July 19, 2019
  • Thew first trailer for FX’s American Horror Story‘s ninth season debuted. The new season will be titled American Horror Story: 1984
  • The next episode of CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zone will premier on April 18, starring Greg Kinnear and Steven Yeun. The episode is titled The Traveler
