Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Tetris Effect is coming to PC on July 23 via the Epic Games Store
    • The PC version will arrive will Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR support
  • SEGA has announced Super Mnokey Ball: Banana Blitz HD for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
    • A remake of the 2006 Wii game, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD releases on Oct. 26
  • Nintendo has deleted a popular course from Super Mario Maker 2 from Twitch streamer/YouTuber GrandPOObear
    • This isn’t the first time the player has had his levels deleted, as his entire library of created levels was infamously deleted in 2016
  • Gearbox dropped a trippy new trailer for Borderlands 3 on July 16
  • Before the new trailer dropped, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford corrected fan speculation regarding the possibility of cross-play for Borderlands 3, stating that cross-play will not be available at launch but possibly in future
  • Streets of Rage 4 will see the return o series composer Yuzo Koshiro, along with collaborator Motohiro Kawashima
    • Along with Koshiro, the game features music from Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter 2, Kingdom Hearts series), Hideki Naganuma (Jet Set Radio), and Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl)
  • Nintendo is updating the hardware of the Nintendo Switch to offer longer batter life per use in handheld mode (via Nintendo of Japan)
  • Tetris 99 will have a physical release on Nintendo Switch on Sept. 9 for $39.99
    • The physical release will get access to all current and upcoming paid DLC, along with a year of Nintendo Switch Online (via Polygon)
  • Nintendo revealed that Luigi’s Mansion 3 will release on Oct. 31 for Nintendo Switch
  • During the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Comic-Con panel, Nintendo announced that X-Men Colossus and Cyclops will arrive as part of a free update on Aug. 30
    • The first DLC pack for the game, Marvel Knights, was also given a tease, showing off renders of Blade, Moon Knight, the Punisher, and Morbius
  • Splatoon 2‘s final Splatfest event has concluded, with Team Chaos taking the event
  • PopCap Games is currently working on Plants vs. Zombies 3 (via EA)
  • id Software’s Tim Willits is leaving after this year’s QuakeCon event after 24 years with the company
  • Developer Playdead’s Limbo is now free via the Epic Games Store this week (via Epic Games)
  • Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition comes to Nintendo Switch on July 25
    • Bundled with all the games DLC, the Ultimate edition also arrives on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $29.99
  • Overwatch is getting a huge update, in the form of the long rumored role queue system
    • Players in Quick Play and Competitve games, players will be asked what type of role they want to play (Support, Damage or Tank) and will be limited to selecting characters for that role
    • Teams will be mandated to abide by the 2-2-2 system (2 Damage, 2 Support, and 2 Tank)
  • Overwatch‘s newest character (Hero 31) was given a very brief tease via a developer update from Jeff Kaplan on Overwatch‘s Twitter
  • In movie/TV news, Marvel Studios made a cavalcade of announcements regarding their future films and shows, and plans for Phase 4 of the MCU durng their panel at SDCC 2019
  • Marvel’s The Enternals arrives in theaters on Nov. 6, 2020
  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes to the Disney+ streaming service in Fall 2020
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives in theaters on Feb. 12, 2021
    • The film will see the first true depiction of villain The Mandarin, played by actor Tony Leung
  • WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olson as Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision, arrives on Disney+ in Spring 2021
  • Loki comes to Disney+ in spring 2021
  • Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 7, 2021
  • Marvel announced a What If… animated series featuring voices from the MCU, streaming on Disney+ in Summer 2021
  • Hawkeye comes to Disney+ in Fall 2021
  • Taiki Watiti returns to direct Thor: Love and Thunder, coming to theaters Nov. 5, 2021
    • The film will feature Natalie Portman’s depiction of the Jane Foster version of Thor
  • Black Widow hits theaters on May 1, 2020
  • To end their panel, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige brought two-time Academy award winner Mahershala Ali to announce Blade
  • Along with the announcements, Feige made brief allusions to the X-Men and Fantastic Four coming to the MCU in future
  • In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the series debut, Batman Beyond will be getting an HD release on Blu-Ray as announced at SDCC (via Polygon)
  • The first trailer for Cats, the live action/CGI adaptation of the popular musical released
    • The film opens on Dec. 20
  • The final trailer for IT Chapter Two was released
    • The film hits theaters on Sept. 6
  • The first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the 1986 classic, was released
  • The first trailer for The King’s Man, a prequel to the Kingmen film series, was released
    • The film releases on Feb. 14, 2020
  • HBO released a new trailer for its Watchmen series during Comic-Con
    • The series debuts this October
  • HBO also released a new trailer for its His Dark Materials series, also premiering this Fall
  • The first trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher series has arrived
    • No release date has been set for the season debut
  • The first trailer for CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Picard also debuted at SDCC
    • The series debuts in early 2020
  • Announced by producer James Cameron at Comic-Con, actor Edward Furlong will return to play John Connor in some capacity in this year’s Terminator: Dark Fate
    • This marks Furlong’s first appearance as Connor since his role in 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day (via The Hollywood Reporter)
  • A new trailer for DC Universe’s Harley Quinn animated series premiered at SDCC
  • Brandon Routh will return to the role of Superman for the first time since 2006’s Superman Returns for DC/CW’s Elseworlds event for its DC shows as the Kingdom Come version of Superman
  • Sonic and Tails are coming to an episode of Cartoon Network’s OK K.O animated series on Aug. 4
