Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Wizards of the Coast has announced its 81st set of the popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering titled War of the Spark
  • For April Fools, Ubisoft released two updates for both Rainbow Six: Siege and For Honor. Rainbow Six received a Rainbow is Magic event where the game is covered in pink and unicorns, and For Honor received a 24-hour event where players can fight against or alongside Rabbids (via Polygon)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has released a new map for its battle-royale Blackout mode, Alcatraz. Blackout will also be free to play from April 2 – 30
  • Bethesda announced a pre-order bonus for Rage 2, which will add a cheat code to the game that brings in Tim Kitzrow (announcer for NBA Jam and NFL Blitz) to commentate on the game
  • Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has published a report of the woes at BioWare during the development of Anthem (via Kotaku)
  • Borderlands 3 is coming on Sept. 13 to PC, PS4, and Xbox One. On PC, the game will be an exclusive to the Epic Games Store until 2020
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, and Star Soldier will make their way to the Nintendo Switch Online’s NES lineup on April 10
  • Super Meat Boy Forever has been delayed past its April 2019 release window, and a new release date will be announced at a later date (via Team Meat on Twitter)
  • The Witness is now free on Epic Games Store (via Polygon)
  • Both Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will receive minor support from Nintendo’s Labo VR kit on April 25 (via Twitter)
  • A new trailer for SNK’s Samurai Showdown released, showing the full roster of characters. The game releases on PS4 and Xbox One on June 27, coming to PC and Nintendo Switch later this year
  • Fornite will be introducing a respawn mechanic in squad games similar to Apex Legends‘ in a patch sometime this week (via Polygon)
  • The Kollector, a brand new character, has been revealed for Mortal Kombat 11
  • A new subscription tier for Xbox Games Pass is rumored to be called Xbox Games Pass Ultimate, bundling an Xbox Live Gold subscription as well (via Polygon)
  • The Humble Monthly May bundle will include assassins Creed Origins and several mystery games on May 12 (via Humble Bundle)
  • Persona 5, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for Nintendo Switch were supposedly leaked on Best Buy’s website (via Wario64 on Twitter)
  • In movie news, pre-sale ticket for Avengers: Endgame sold out in about six hours, the biggest day one of any theatrical presale title ever (via Polygon)
  • Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation has been cast, with John Cho (Spike Spiegal), Mustafa Shakir (Jet Black), and Danielle Pineda (Faye Valentine) (via Netflix on Twitter)
  • The first episode of CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zone was released for for free (via CBS All Access)
  • The first teaser trailer for Joker, the Joaquin Phoenix led origin movie, was released. The film will release on Oct. 4
  • Another teaser for the eighth and final season of Games of Thrones was released. The final season begins on April 14
  • A new featurette trailer for Avengers: Endgame was released, with several new looks at what to expect on April 26
  • The first trailer for Jim Jarmush’s The Dead Don’t Die, a zombie-comedy with a star-studded cast released. The film stars
    Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloƫ Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat and Tom Waits
