Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

 

  • EA developer Full Circle released a short teaser for the next Skate ahead of EA Play Live, sharing that that the game is still early in development

 

  • Ubisoft revealed a new game in their long-running Tom Clancy partnership, titled Tom Clancy’s XDefiant
    • A free-to-play arena first-person shooter, XDefiant features factions from several Tom Clancy franchises such as Splinter Cell, The Division, and Ghost Recon
    • The game launches in test this August and will launch on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, as well as streaming platforms Amazon Luna and Google Stadia 

 

  • Developer Arc System Works revealed the first DLC fighter for Guilty Gear Strive, Goldlewis Dickinson
    • The fighter is now available for those who ow the game’s season pass, and will release for others on July 30 

 

  • Konami’s PES soccer franchise has been rebranded as eFootball, a new free-to-play soccer game in development on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, as well as iOS and Android devices 

 

  • Preorders for the Playdate handheld open on July 29 at 10am PDT
  • Activision Blizzard is being sued by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing due to an environment that “fosters a “frat boy” culture in which female employees are subjected to constant sexual harassment, unequal pay, and retaliation” according to the report
    • The two-year investigation by the state found that the Activision Blizzard “discriminated against female employees in terms and conditions of employment, including compensation, assignment, promotion, and termination. Company leadership consistently failed to take steps to prevent discrimination, harassment, and retaliation”

  • EA hosted it’s annual EA Play Live stream on July 22, showcasing several new games and announcements that included:

 

  • Grid Legends from developer Codemasters the Dirt and F1 studio bought by EA earlier this year
    • The game is set to release on PC and consoles in 2022

 

  • EA revealed Lost in Random, a new action RPG from the EA Originals program from Fe developer Zoink
    • The game releases on PC and consoles on Sept. 10

 

  • Developer Respawn revealed a first look at Apex Legends new season, titled Emergence 
    • The new season arrives with an updated World’s Edge map, new weapon, battlepass, as well as new legend Seer
    • The new season begins on Aug. 3

 

  • Multiplayer dodgeball game Knockout City‘s season 2 was revealed, titled “Fight at the Movies” 

 

  • EA and DICE revealed Battlefield Portal, a community-driven multiplayer sandbox that works with Battlefield 2042
    •  Allowing custom games featuring elements from Battlefield‘s past, including Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3 that allows players to create, share, and play mishmashes of game modes, weapons, and gadgets

 

  • EA ended their EA Play Live stream with a short teaser for a remake of the original Dead Space, from developer EA Motive 
    • The remake is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S with no set release date

 

  • In movie/streaming news, a new trailer for Dennis Villeneuve’s long -delayed Dune was released ahead  of its release in theaters and HBO Max on Oct. 22

 

  • The first trailer for Star Trek: Prodigy was released, a new CG animated series developed in partnership with Nickelodeon and releasing on Paramount+ this fall 

 

  • The first trailer for season two of Star Trek: Lower Decks was released, also premiering on Paramount+ in the fall

 

  • Blade Runner: Black Lotus, a CG anime series based in the world of the Blade Runner films, is set to release on Adult Swim as well as Crunchyroll this fall
