Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios celebrated the 20 year anniversary of the launch of the original Xbox with a livestream dedicated to the history of Xbox

 

  • As part of the livestream, the Halo live action series was announced to be streaming on Paramount+ in 2022

 

  • Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer got a surprise beta release on PC and Xbox, with Season 1 of the game lasting until May 2022
  • 70 new titles were also added to Xbox’s backwards compatible list on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (via Xbox)

 

  • Developer People Can Fly revealed Outriders‘ latest free update, New Horizon, available now on all platforms
    • The studio also teased the game’s paid expansion, Worldslayer, slated to release sometime next year

 

  • Bandai Namco announced Dragon Ball: The Breakers, an asymmetrical online multiplayer game where a team of 7 players fight to survive against one the Dragon Ball Z‘s iconic villains, such as Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu
    • The game is to release on PC and consoles sometime in 2022
  • In a Wall Street Journal report, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick was reportedly aware of several instances of sexual misconduct within the company, and did not report them to board members despite saying the opposite (via The Wall Street Journal)
    • Kotick also drafted the now infamous email sent out by the company’s chief compliance officer Fran Townsend, to which Kotick has now confirmedĀ 
    • Dan Bunting, co-head of Treyarch (Call of Duty: Black Ops series), has left the studio after the report due to allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017
    • The report also details Blizzard co-head Jen O’Neal’s reasons for leaving the company at the end of the year, including lack of pay parity with her co-head at Blizzard, and allegations of harassment, marginalization, and tokenizationĀ 

 

  • A number of Activision Blizzard employees walked out after the Wall Street Journal report, calling for the resignation of CEO Bobby Kotick and demands of company-wide changes

 

  • 343 Industries is evaluating Halo Infinite’s Battle Pass progression, as players report slow progression and XP gains

 

  • The Saints Row reboot, originally scheduled to release in Feb. 25 2022, has been delayed to Aug. 23 2022

 

  • Monster Hunter Rise is getting a crossover mini-event with Sega/Sonic the Hedgehog in celebration of Sonic’s 30th anniversary
    • The crossover event begins on Nov. 26

 

  • After a recent controversy surrounding the company’s name, as well as seemingly copied text on website descriptions of the company software, live-streaming software company Streamlabs has removed “OBS” from the company’s name

 

  • MultiVersus, the oft-rumored WB Games platform fighter, was revealed for PC and consoles and will launch sometime in 2022
    • A free to play super Smash Bros-like fighter, the game features 2v2 team fighting ,ā€œdedicated server-based rollback netcode and content-filled seasons”, as well as a roster featuring a plethora of WB-owned properties including Bugs Bunny, Batman, Superman, Steven Universe, Shaggy from Scooby Doo, and more

 

  • Capcom’s Pragmata was delayed to 2023

 

  • 2K Games released a video showcasing some of new features and changes coming to WWE 2K22 before launch in March, 2022
  • Bungie detailed Destiny 2’s upcoming ability balance patch, which will tune class abilities in the game (via Bungie)
  • In an interview with Eurogamer, head of creative at 343 Industries Joseph Staten revealed that Halo Infinite‘s campaign co-op feature will launch later than initially expected, with it now expected to launch by May 2022 at the earliest (via Eurogamer)

 

  • Rockstar Games issued a public apology regrading the state of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, promising continued updates and fixes
    • The publisher/developer also statedĀ that they will add the original PC versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back to the Rockstar Store on PC as a bundleĀ 
    • Those who purchased Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on PC by June 30, 2022, will receive the original versions of the games through the Rockstar Store

 

  • The first season of Call of Duty: Vanguard‘s content rollout, as well as the new Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific map has been delayed to Dec. 8

 

  • In animation/TV news, a new Earthworm Jim animated series is in production from Interplay Entertainment and the Agency for the Performing Arts, titled Earthworm Jim: Beyond the Groovy (via Polygon)

 

  • Amazon released the first trailer for the sixth and final season of The ExpanseĀ 
    • The final season premieres on Dec. 10

 

  • Netflix released the first teaser trailer for the fourth season of Ozark, slated to release on Jan. 22, 2022

 

  • The first full trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley was released
    • The thriller arrives in theaters on Dec. 17

 

  • Netflix also released a new trailer for Adam McKay’s black comedy Don’t Look Up, releasing in select theaters Dec. 10 and on Netflix starting Dec. 24
