Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Blizzard has rolled out an update to Overwatch, renaming the former McCree to Cole Cassidy
    • The change comes after allegations of misconduct against the character’s previous namesake, designer Jesse McCree, came too light earlier this year, along with several other members of the company

 

  • Microsoft and 343 Industries showed the first campaign footage for Halo Infinite since last year, showcasing the open world nature of the game
    • Halo Infinite‘s campaign and free to play multiplayer launch on PC and Xbox consoles Dec. 8

 

  • EA and Respawn debuted several trailers for the upcoming 11th season of Apex Legends, dubbed Escape
    • The new season brings a new map, Storm Point, which adds a new layer of combat with PVE enemies in certain sections of the map
    • Escape also brings a new character, Ash, who was previously an NPC seen in the game as well as an enemy pilot in Respawn’s Titanfall 2
    • A new weapon, new battle pass, and new unlockable cosmetics come with the latest season

 

  • Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released a new trailer for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, focusing on the gym leaders as well as a look at Team Galactic
    • The remakes of the classic Nintendo DS Pokémon releases for Nintendo Switch on Nov. 19

 

  • Nintendo and The Pokémon Company also showed off new footage from Pokémon Legends: Arceus
    • The new trailer focuses on the new regional forms of Zorua and Zoroark
    • Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases for Nintendo Switch Jan. 28, 2022

 

  • Returnal, the PlayStation 5 rogue-like from developer Housemarque, released a patch for the game updating it to include the much requested ability to suspend a run as well as a Photo Mode
  • Blizzard has cancelled its plans for BlizzCon 2022, originally slated for as an online event in Feb. 2022 (via Blizzard)

 

  • Nintendo and Pokémon Go developer Niantic have launched a new AR app for mobile, Pikmin Bloom
  • Sony streamed a new PlayStation State of Play on 10/27, featuring looks at new and upcoming games coming to PS4 and PS5

 

  • Deathverse – Let It Die, a follow-up to 2016’s Let it Die, was revealed
    • Developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, the battle royale action game comes to PS4 and PS5 in 2022

 

  • A new look at Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach revealed the game’s release date of Dec. 16 on PS4 and PS5

 

  • Indie action game Death’s Door is coming to PS4 and PS5 on Nov. 23 
    • Death’s Door also comes to Nintendo Switch the same day

 

  • SNK revealed the latest fighter for it’s upcoming King of Fighters XV, Dolores
    • King of Fighters XV will hold an open beta from Nov. 19 until Nov. 22
    • The latest in the long running fighting game series launches Feb. 17, 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S

 

  • BugSnax is getting a free new update in the form of Bugsnax: The Isle of BIGsnax 
    • The update arrives in early 2022

 

  • First Class Trouble, an online social deduction game from indie developer Invisible Walls
    • The game will be free to download for PlayStation Plus subscribers through the end on November

 

  • Square Enix and developer tri-Ace revealed Star Ocean: The Divine Force
    • The latest entry in the JRPG series releases on PC and consoles in 2022

 

  • Sony ended their presentation with a new look at indie title Little Devil Inside, coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2022
  • Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics shared several news items celebrating the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider
    • Rise of the Tomb Raider is free for Amazon/Twitch Prime members until Nov. 14
    • Nintendo Switch ports of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (2010) and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (2014) are coming sometime in 2022 (via Tomb Raider)

 

  • November’s free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers are now available, which includes Knockout City, First Class Trouble, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
    • Also included are three bonus PSVR games in The Persistence, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, and Until You Fall 

 

  • The initial roadmap of content coming to Call of Duty Vanguard was revealed, including that the first season of content drops will begin on Dec. 2 along with Call of Duty Warzone‘s new map, Caldera
  • Oculus announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will comes to Oculus Quest 2 during Connect 2021 (via Oculus)

 

  • Bandai Namco nd developer Supermassive Games revealed the next game in their The Dark Pictures Anthology series, titled The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me

 

  • Riot Games revealed Valorant’s latest playable character, Chamber
  • Skydance New Media, the development studio headed by writer and director Amy Hennig (Uncharted series) have announced a partnership with Marvel Entertainment to “develop a narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe”
  • Nine new games will be available on Xbox Game Pass in November, including Forza Horizon 5, It Takes Two, as well as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition collection (via Xbox Wire)

 

  • The long in development Bloodborne demake, titled Bloodborne PSX, will release for free on PC from developer Lilith Walther on Jan. 31, 2022

 

  • In streaming news, Amazon released a new trailer for The Wheel of Time, a new series based on the novels of the same name
    • The series premieres on Amazon Prime Video starting November 19th

 

  • Netflix released the first official trailer for the second season of The Witcher
    • The new season releases on Netflix Dec. 17

 

  • Disney and Pixar released the first teaser trailer for Lightyear, based on the backstory of the “real” astronaut on whom the Buzz Lightyear action figure from Toy Story is based
    • The animated feature releases on June 17th, 2022

 

  • A new trailer for Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci was released
    • Starring an ensemble cast including  Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, and Salma Hayek, House of Gucci arrives in theaters Nov. 24th
