Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • E3 2021 kicked off last week, with an all-digital event with showcases from publishers big and small

 

Devolver Digital

  • Indie game publisher Devolver Digital held their annual E3 parody presentation, showing several off several games in their catalog including:
    •  A new look at Shadow Warrior 3, from series developer Flying Wild Hog
    • Trek to Yomi, a 2.5D adventure game with a black and white Kurosawa film style that’s a collaboration between Flying Wild Hog and developer Leonard Menchiari set to launch on PC and consoles in 2022
    • Phantom Abyss, a first-person asynchronous multiplayer game with players traversing through procedurally-generated dungeons,
      • Developed by Team WIBI, the game is set to launch in Steam Early Access on June 22
    • Wizard With a Gun, from developer Galvanic Games, coming to PC and Nintendo Switch in 2022
    • Death’s Door, from Titan Souls developer Acid Nerve, releasing July 20 on PC and Xbox consoles
    • Inscryption, a new game from developer Daniel Mullins Games (Pony Island, The Hex) that bends deckbuilding and psychological horror
    • Demon Throttle, a physical-only release from developer Doinksoft

 

Ubisoft Forward

  • Rainbow Six Extraction (originally known as Rainbow Six Quarantine), a new co-op entry in the long-running series with a sci-fi/horror spin, comes to PC and consoles on Sept. 16

 

  • Ubisoft’s Rockmith is coming back in form of Rocksmith+, a subscription service for interactive guitar-learning set to launch on PC, console, as well as mobile

 

  • Outdoor sports game Riders Republic got a release date of Sept. 2

 

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will continue to get DLC in the game’s future, including The Siege of Paris expansion, the return of Discovery Tour mode, and more to come

 

  • More details and gameplay from Far Cry 6 were revealed, including DLC that will allow players to control villains from Far Cry 3-5, as well as a remaster of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
    • Far Cry 6 releases on PC and consoles on Oct. 7

 

  • After leaking before their event, Ubisoft formally revealed Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, a sequel to 2017’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
    • The game is set to release on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022

 

  • Ubisoft teased Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora from The Division developer Massive Entertainment
    • Based on the blockbuster James Cameron film(s?) of the same name, the game is set to release sometime in 2022

 

Microsoft/Bethesda

  • Bethesda’s Todd Howard kicked off the presentation with a first look at Starfield, coming exclusively to Xbox consoles and PC on Nov. 11, 2022

 

  • Rare and Xbox teased the next season of content coming to Sea of Thieves, which includes a crossover with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise
    • Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life starts on June 22

 

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl got its first full gameplay trailer, with the survival horror shooter coming to PC an Xbox Series X/S on April 28, 2022
    • The game will launch as an Xbox Game Pass game on day one

 

  • Turtle Rock Studios’ Back 4 Blood got a new trailer at the event, revealing the game will launch one Xbox Game Pass on Oct. 8 along with PC and PS4/PS5

 

  • Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios revealed their next project, an open world co-op heist game titled Contraband
    • The game is set to be exclusive to Xbox consoles and Windows PC

 

  • EA and developer DICE revealed a first-look at in-engine gameplay from Battlefield 2042
    • The latest in the long-running shooter series comes to PC and consoles on Oct. 22

 

  • Indie game Twelve Minutes got a new trailer, revealing the game will release on PC and Xbox consoles on Aug. 19
    • Published by Annapurna Interactive, the game will arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch

 

  • Psychonauts 2 got a new gameplay trailer, along with its final release date of Aug. 25
    • The long-anticipated sequel arrives on PC, Xbox consoles (and Xbox Game Pass), as well as PS4 and PS5

 

  • Bethesda revealed a new Brotherhood of Steel campaign for Fallout 76, titled Fallout 76: Steel Reign set to release on July 7
    • The reveal also teased a future campaign taking place in Pittsburgh, known in Fallout as The Pitt, releasing in 2022

 

  • Supergiant Games’ critically acclaimed rogue-like Hades is heading to Xbox )PlayStation consoles on Aug. 13
    • Hades will also launch on Xbox Game Pass on the same day

 

  • Somerville, from independent developer Jumpship (a studio co-founded by former Playdead co-founder Dino Patti) , was revealed as a console launch exclusive
    • Also releasing on Xbox Game Pass, the game is set to release in 2022

 

  • Developer 343 Industries revealed a first-look at Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer gameplay, which will launch the same day as the game’s campaign 
    • Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer will be free-to-play on PC and Xbox consoles, and the game is set to release this Holiday

 

  • Developer 343 Industries later released more details on Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer, including more game play and details in regard to seasonal content and Battle Pass progression

 

  • Blizzard revealed the release date for Diablo II Resurrected, releasing on PC and console on Sept. 23

 

  • Developer Asobo Studio and publisher Focus Home Interactive revealed A Plague Tale: Requiem, a sequel to 2019’s A Plague Tale: Innocence
    • The game is set to release on PC, Xbox consoles, and PlayStation 4/5 in 2022

 

  • Developer Monomi Park revealed Slime Rancher 2, set to release on PC and Xbox Series X/S along with Xbox Game Pass in 2022

 

  • Developer Foam Punch Studios revealed Shredders, a new snowboarding game coming PC and Xbox Series X/S along with Xbox Game Pass in December

 

  • First-person shooter Atomic Heart, developed by Russian studio Mundfish, got a new trailer
    • Atomic Heart releases the same day on PC, Xbox consoles along with Xbox Game Pass

 

  • Indie developer Sad Cat Studios revealed Replaced, a 2.5D cyberpunk-styled platformer
    • The game is scheduled to release on PC, Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass in 2022

 

  • Real-time strategy game Age of Empires IV got a new trailer ahead of its Oct. 28 release on Windows PC
    • Age of Empires IV will also release on Xbox Game Pass for PC

 

  • Obsidian Entertainment announced The Outer Worlds 2
    • No release date has been set for the sequel

 

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator comes to Xbox Series X/S on July 27
    • A Top Gun themed expansion is also planned to release in November, along with the release of Top Gun: Maverick

 

  • Microsoft and Playground Games revealed Forza Horizon 5, coming to PC and Xbox consoles along with Xbox Game Pass on Nov. 9

 

  • Microsoft and Bethesda ended their joint presentation with a new game from developer Arkane Studios, an open-world vampire hunting FPS with co-op titled Redfall
    • Redfall will launch exclusively on PC and Xbox Series X/S in summer 2022

 

  • Xbox also announced the return of Xbox Design to create custom-designed/colored Xbox Series X/S controllers
  • After the conclusion of Microsoft’s briefing, it has been reported that development Rare’s next project, Everwild, has been “rebooted” under a new creative lead and will release in the next few years (via The Video Games Chronicle)

 

Square Enix

  • Square Enix debuted a new Marvel collaboration with Guardians of the Galaxy, developed by Eidos Montreal 
    • The game is set to release on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch on Oct. 26

 

  • The first ajor expansio for Marvel’s Avengers, Black Panther | War for Wakanda was revealed
    • The expansion arrives for free on all platforms this August

 

  • PlatinumGames’ Babylon’s Fall got a new trailer, revealing a closer look at the dungeon crawler/action game
    • It was revealed during the presentation that Babylon’s’ Fall is planned to be a live-service game, with content updates happening over time
    • The game is set to launch on PC, PS5, and PS4 at a later date

 

  • Life is Strange: True Colors got a new trailer ahead of its release on Sept. 10 on PC and consoles

 

  • Square Enix and Nioh/Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja are collaborating on an action RPG Final Fantasy game, titled Strangers of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin
    • The game currently has a demo on PlayStation 5, and is set to release on PC and consoles sometime in 2022

 

Capcom

  • Capcom had their own showcase during E3, showcasing details on games released or releasing this year including
    • Resident Evil Village, which has DLC in the works
    • A look at Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
    • Gameplay from The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

 

Nintendo

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s newest DLC character will be Tekken‘s Kazuya Mishima
    • Details regarding the Tekken veteran will release at a later date

 

  • Life is Strange Remastered Collection and Life is Strange: True Colors are heading to Nintendo Switch 

 

  • A cloud version of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will release on Nintendo Switch on Oct. 26

 

  • A compilation of titles in the Super Monkey Ball series will release as Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania
    • Featuring remastered titles of the original games, the game releases on PC and consoles on Oct. 5

 

  • Mario Party Superstars, a new Mario Party game featuring boards and mini-games from the series’ N64 past, was announced
    • The game is to release on Nintendo Switch on Oct. 29

 

  • After briefly discussing that Metroid Prime 4 is continuing development, a new 2D-style Metroid game titled Metroid Dread was announced
    • Developed in partnership with Metroid: Samus Returns developer MercurySteam, the much-anticipated entry arrives on Oct. 8 along with two new Amiibo based on Samus’ new suit and the main antagonist of the game

 

  • Cruis’n Blast, a new entry in the classic arcade racing series, was announced to be coming to Nintendo Switch sometime this fall

 

  • Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot + A New Power Awakens Set is coming to Nintendo Switch on Sept. 24

 

  • A new WarioWare game is coming to Nintendo Switch in the form of WarioWare: Get it Together!
    • The latest entry in the wacky mini-game series arrives on Sept. 10

 

  • Atlus RPG Shin Megami Tensei V got its first deep-dive trailer, along with a release date of Nov. 12 exclusively on Nintendo Switch

 

  • All three mainline entries in the Danganronpa series are coming to Nintendo Switch, in the form of Danganronpa Decadence
    • The compilation releases later this year

 

  • Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, originally released on WiiU in 2014, is getting remastered on Nintendo Switch and other consoles when it releases later this year

 

  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is coming to Nintendo Switch on June 25

 

  •  Remakes of beloved RTS Game Boy Advance games Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2 are coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
    • Developed in collaboration with WayForward, the title arrives on Dec. 3 

 

  • The first part of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity‘s Expansion pass was revealed, showing off new weapons and characters playable now

 

  • To cap off Nintendo’s presentation, The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma revealed a new trailer for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which is planned to release sometime in 2022
    • The producer also shared a new Game and Watch system celebrating the series’ 35th anniversary, containing the original The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II; The Adventure of Link, as well as the Game Boy version of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

 

  • Nintendo also livestreamed several demos of the games talked about in their presentation in their Nintendo Treehouse streams, including a first look at an early portion of No More Heroes III
