Weekly Wrap-Up: Enter the FanDome 2021 Edition

Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:


  • Destiny 2‘s annual Halloween-themed Season of the Lost event is now live on all platforms, with spooky new content available until Nov. 2


  • Ahead of the game’s 30th anniversary in 2022, NetherRealm Studios head and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon released behind the scenes performance capture footage of the original game’s signature “Get over here!” chain-pull move from Scorpion


  • Ubisoft has delayed the first technical test of Ghost Recon Frontline indefinitely


  • EA and DICE revealed Battlefield 2042‘s third major multiplayer mode, called Hazard Zone
    • The mode sees teams of combatants fight in an objective-based battle to obtain intel, with each player getting one life each


  • EA Sports announced that they have removed former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden from Madden 22 following Gruden’s resignation


  • Nintendo hosted an Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct on Oct. 15, showcasing the game’s upcoming major update
    • The showcase revealed new locations such as the return of Brewster’s café, updates to Harv’s island, the return of Kapp’n, as well s several updates to activities, new villagers, and a plethora of new items to decorate your home and the island
    • Animal Crossing: New Horizon‘s 2.0 update arrives on Nov. 5


  • Nintendo also detailed the new tier of Nintendo Switch Online, titled Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
    • The new tier will include classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games that will get updated over time
    • The Expansion Pack will cost $49.99 for an individual membership, and $79.99 for a family membership 


  • Nintendo also revealed Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise, a paid expansion for Animal Crossing: New Horizons
    • The expansion allows players to build custom homes for island residents, and will cost $24.99
    • Those subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack will get free access to the expansion as long as they are subscribed


  • Developer Rocksteady Studios released a new trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League during DC FanDome
    • The open world action game takes place in a Metropolis taken over by Braniac, with the group of anti-heroes tasked with taking down a brainwashed Justice League
    • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League hits PC and consoles sometime in 2022


  • A new story trailer for Gotham Knights during DC FanDome, focusing on Gotham’s secret Court of Owls society
    • Gotham Knights is planned to release on PC and consoles sometime in 2022


  • In movie news, the first trailer for the latest entry in the long-running Scream franchise was released
    • The newest entry in the horror-parody series hits theaters on Jan. 14, 2022


  • Disney and Marvel released a new short trailer for the upcoming Hawkeye series, debuting on Disney+ starting Nov. 24


  • DC revealed a cavalcade of new trailers  and sneak peaks during it’s DC FanDome livestream, including a first look at Naomi
    • The CW series, based on the DC hero created by Brian Michael Bendis, is set to premiere in 2022


  • The first trailer for HBO Max’s Peacemaker series was released
    • A spinoff of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the series premieres on HBO Max starting Jan. 13, 2022


  • The fourth season of DC animated series Young Justice, dubbed Young Justice: Phantoms, was revealed 
    • The first two episodes are now available on HBO Max, with new episodes coming to the platform starting Oct. 21


  • DC and Warner Bros. offered a behind the scenes first look at the Shazam! sequel, titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods
    • The film is slated to release in 2023


  • A quick teaser for DC’s Black Adam was also revealed, showcasing Dwayne Johnson as the titular villain
    • Black Adam is set to release on July 29, 2022


  • DC FanDome also provided a first look at The Flash, showcasing stars Ezra Miller as the titular hero and brief glimpses of Sasha Calle as Supergirl and the return of Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne/Batman 
    • Directed by Andy Muschietti (It), the Flashpoint adaptation arrives in theaters Nov. 4, 2022


  •  A brief behind the scenes look at Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was also shown off


  • The first full trailer for The Batman, from director Matt Reeves, was released
    • The trailer showcases new looks at the main cast from Robert Pattison’s Bruce Wayne/Batman. Paul Dano’s Riddler, Zoe Kravitz’s Selina Kyle/Catwoman, and an unrecognizable Colin Ferrell as Oswalt Cobblepot/The Penguin
    • The Batman releases on March 4, 2022
  • In other news from DC FanDome, DC’s Titans and Doom Patrol will return for a fourth season on HBO Max (via Polygon)
  • A brief glimpse at the Blue Beetle movie was released during DC FanDome, which will premiere on HBO Max (via Polygon)
  • The Batgirl movie also got  brief tease, with In the Heights actor Leslie Grace taking on the character of Barbara Gordon (via Polygon
    • The movie is set to premiere on HBO Max as well
  •  DC FanDome also provided a brief look at Batman: Caped Crusader, a new animated series coming to HBO Max from JJ. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm (via DC FanDome)
