Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • In a now viral tweet, indie developer Two Star Games revealed their next title, a horror/train management game called Choo Choo Charles in which the player must survive the onslaught of a horrific spider-like train 
  • An achievement system will be rolling out for the Epic Games Store, with games such as Hades, Pillars of Eternity, and Rocket League getting access first (via Epic Games)

 

  • Fortnite‘s annual Halloween-themed Fortnightmares event is now live on all platforms, bringing new content every week until Nov .1

 

  • Nintendo livestreamed their final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentation, with director Masihiro Sakurai revealing Kingdom Hearts‘ Sora as the final DLC character for the game 
    • Sakurai showcased Sora’s gameplay, costumes, as well as the new stage to be added alongside the character
    • Several new Mii Fighter costumes were also revealed, including collaborations with Splatoon and Doom‘s Doom Slayer outfits

 

  • Also as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate livestream, it was announced that the Kingdom Hearts series will come to Nintendo Switch as cloud games

 

  • Nintendo announced that an Animal Crossing Direct is planned for Oct. 15 at 10am ET, with news regarding future content and updates

 

  • Ubisoft announced a new Ghost Recon game, a massively multiplayer first person shooter titled Ghost Recon: Frontline
  • Developer PlatinumGames revealed a new look at Baylon’s Fall, it’s upcoming multiplayer action game and revealed the games updated look in new screens (via PlatinumGames)
  • Universal Studios Japan will add Pokémon attractions to the park starting in 2022 in a new collaboration between Universal and The Pokémon Company (via Polygon)

 

  • Microsoft unveiled their 20th Anniversary Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Stereo Headset, based on the color scheme on the original Xbox console
  • Dragon Quest composer Koichi Sugiyama, controversially known for his far-right nationalist views and public denial of Japanese war crimes, has passed away at age 90 (via Polygon)
  • Blizzard announced Diablo IV‘s new game director, Joe Shely (via Blizzard
    • The announcement comes after the exit of former director Luis Barriga
  • Bungie revealed that content from Destiny 2‘s Forsaken expansion will be entering it’s Content Vault in February of next year, including the expansion’s campaign and location (via Blizzard)

 

  • Rockstar Games announced that remasters of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas are coming to PC and consoles later this year
  • Sega’s Yakuza and Judgement series developer Ryu Ga Gotoku announced that the studio will be undergoing restructuring after the departure of longtime studio directors Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Daisuke Sato (via Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio)

 

  • In streaming news, the first trailer for the fourth season of Star Trek Discovery was released 
    • The season premieres on Paramount+ on Nov. 18

 

  •  A new trailer for Blade Runner: Black Lotus was released
    • The anime premieres on both Adult Swim and Crunchyroll on Nov. 13

 

  • The final trailer for director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune was released
    • The adptation of the classic sci-fi series hits theaters and HBO Max on Oct. 22 

 

  • Amazon released the first trailer for the third season of its thriller series Hanna
    • The series premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Nov 24
