Weekly Wrap-Up: Milk Crate Challenge Edition

Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Developer Arc System Works revealed Guilty Gear Strive‘s next character, Jack-O’, who will release as part of the fighting game’s first season pass Aug. 27


  • Fortnite revealed the game’s latest limited-time game mode, titled Imposters
    • The Among Us-style mode is now live on all platforms


  • The Pokémon Company streamed a new Pokémon Presents presentation, showcasing new details regarding new and upcoming Pokémon games including:
    • Pokémon Unite will come to mobile devices on Sept. 22 
    • Updates for remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, coming to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 19
    • New gameplay and story details for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, coming to Nintendo Switch on Jan. 28, 2022


  • Yakuza series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu will be a playable character in the upcoming Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania collection
    • The announcement comes on the heels of Sonic and Tails, as well as Beat from Jet Set Radio being crossover characters


  • During this year’s annual QuakeCon, Bethesda and id Software revealed that they had released a remastered version of the original Quake
    • The new version is free to those who own the game on Steam and the Bethesda launcher, and is now available on all platforms with 4K/60 FPS support on PC and consoles that support it
    • The remaster also comes with additional expansions, one episode developed by Wolfenstein developer Machine Games, and cross-platform multiplayer support
  • Bethesda also announced that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is getting a new edition in time for the game’s 10th anniversary, titled Anniversary Edition 
    • Featuring all of the game’s DLC content, as well as popular mods and new features, the new release comes to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on Nov. 11 (via Polygon)


  • Developer 343 Industries revealed another quick look at Halo Infinite following the game’s multiplayer tech test, along with news that the game’s campaign co-op and the map editing Forge mode will come as updates later in the game’s lifetime
    • Campaign co-op is scheduled as part of season 2 off Infinite‘s post-launch plans, and Forge as part of season 3


  • In games/streaming news, the first trailer for the game show adaptation of classic arcade game Frogger was released
    • The show premieres on Peacock starting on Sept. 9


  • The first trailer for Netflix’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe CG animated series was released
    • The new adaptation releases on Sept. 16


  • Marvel released a new trailer for The Eternals, coming to theaters on Nov. 5


  • The first trailer for Apple’s Foundation, an adaptation of the series of Isaac Asimov sci-fi novels, was released
    • The series premieres on Apple TV Plus starting Sept. 24


  • Netflix released the first trailer for Nightbooks, based on the horror-fantasy YA book of the same name by J. A. White
    • The film comes to Netflix on Sept. 15
