Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Capcom extended the limited-time demo for Resident Evil Village until May 9 in the U.S., and until May 10 for other regions

 

  • Pokémon Go has added Pokémon X and Y‘s legendaries, Xerneas and Yveltal, to the game’s expanding roster of creatures
  • Pokémon Go Fest will take place as a digital event on July 17 and July 18 (via Niantic)

 

  • Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch has had online play with friends for the game’s main board-game modes
    • The update is the first the game has seen in almost two years

 

  • Monster Hunter Rise launched Version 2.0, adding new monsters and gear for existing players
  • Resident Evil Re:Verse, the multiplayer Resident Evil game attached to Resident Evil Village, is now slated to release this summer after a delay (via Capcom)

 

  • May’s free PlayStation Plus games are now live, which include Battlefield V, Wreckfest, and Stranded Deep for both PS4 and PS5
  • Xbox Game Studios offered a closer look at their work on PC games, sharing that Halo Infinite will have crossplay and cross-progression on PC and Xbox platforms (via Xbox)
    • Another piece of news to come from the article is that Xbox will b updating its revenue split on PC games sold on the Microsoft Store, as developers will now receive 88% of the revenue for any game sold on Microsoft’s PC storefront starting on August 1
  • An unfinished version of Castlevania Resurrection, a cancelled Castlevania originally set to release on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, was released to the public through an archivist (via Destructoid)

 

  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is getting a next-gen release on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, with a number of technical improvements 
    • The release will be a free update to those who own the previous-gen versions

 

  • Developer Respawn showcased Apex Legends‘ new character, Valkyrie, in a new video taking a look at the new Legend’s abilities

 

  • Respawn also showcased Apex Legends updates coming in its update, including a new permanent 3v3 tactical PVP mode titled Arenas 
    • Apex Legends’ new season/update, titled Apex Legends – Legacy, is now live on all platforms

 

  • PlayStation hosted a new State of Play livestream, mainly focused around new gameplay for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
    • The next entry in the beloved action-platformer series comes to PS5 on June 11
    • The stream also announced that popular multiplayer game Among Us is coming to PS4 and PS5 this year, and provided a quick look at Subnautica: Below Zero on PS5 launching on May 14
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach has been delayed to late 2021 (via Scott Cawthon)
  • Destiny 2 will get the original Destiny‘s Vault of Glass Raid on May 22 (via Bungie)

 

  • The Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions of Fall Guys have been delayed after originally being planned to release this summer
    • Cross-platform play will arrive in all versions of Fall Guys upon the release of the Switch and Xbox versions
  • According to a report, the swatting of the Ubisoft Montreal office in November was a notorious Rainbow Six Siege cheater who previously done a similar crime in 2017 (via Bungie)
  • Developer/publisher Riot will begin recording voice chat in order to moderate player communication in all games, starting with Valorant (via Riot)

 

  • PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal developer Housemarque has responded criticism of the game not featuring a save system, stating that they are listening to community feedback 

 

  • In gaming/movie news, several new actors have been confirmed for roles in the Borderlands movie, including Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxie (via Deadline)

 

  • The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story was released
    • The film hits theaters this December

 

  • The first trailer for season 4 of Netflix’s Castlevania was released
    • The final season of this iteration releases on May 13

 

  • Disney/Pixar released a new trailer for their next animated outing, Luca
    • The animated feature hits Disney+ on June 18

 

  • The first trailer for Sweet tooth, based on the DC comic of the same name, was released
    • The series premieres on Netflix June 4

 

  • The first teaser for the limited-series return of Dexter was released
    • The series premieres later this year on Showtime

 

  • The fifth season of Rick and Morty got a new trailer, with the series set to return June 20 on Adult Swim
