Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • The PlayStation 5 will continue to be in short supply through 2022 according to a report by Bloomberg (via Polygon)

 

  • Gears of War series developer The Coalition is shifting resources into Unreal Engine 5, and are winding down development on on Gears 5

 

  • EA and DICE are teasing updates on the future of Battlefield sometime in June 

 

  • Hitman 3‘s second season of DLC, titled Season of Pride, began last week

 

  • LucasArts’ retro classics Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol are getting a modern re-release in one package
    • The 16-bit classics come to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch digitally on June 29
    • Limited Run Games plans to release physical editions of the games for “select modern and legacy platforms” later this year

 

  • Blizzard will host a livestream to showcase updates on Overwatch 2, specifically the sequel’s PvP updates on May 20
  • Former Halo creative director Tim Longo, Jr. and two other AAA game dev veterans, Hitman 3’s executive producer Forest Swartout Large and former Gears of War producer Jeff Morris, have formed a new studio named Twin Suns Corp. (via Polygon)

 

  • A collection new indie games will be showcased during the Wholesome Direct, a Nintendo Direct-style presentation focused on relaxing indie games from several different studios

 

  • Indie game storefront itch.io had its first Creator Day, in which 100% of revenue from game sales go towards game creators
  • Target has stopped sales of Pokémon cards in stores as well as other trading cards due to a recent surge in violent altercations in stores due to the increasingly high demand of trading cards (via Polygon)

 

  • PlayStation revealed two new colors for its PlayStation 5 DualSense controller, Cosmic Red and Midnight Black
    • The new colors release on June 11

 

  • Call of Duty teased the release of 80’s action hero themed cosmetics and more coming to Black Ops: Cold War, Warzone, and Call of Duty Mobile coming May 20
    • Cosmetic skins include Die Hard‘s John McClane and Rambo‘s…well…Rambo

 

  • MMO Final Fantasy XIV held its annual Fan Festival, and revealed the first full trailer for its latest expansion, Endwalker
    • The expansion comes with a new job class, the Reaper, as well as new zones and a new race, the male Viera 

 

 

  • In movie/animation news, several Adult Swim animated series will get feature films, including Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros., and Aqua Teen Hunger Force
  • Several new actors have been cast in Knives Out 2, including Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Edward Norton, and Dave Bautista (via Indiewire)

 

  • The Green Knight, from acclaimed director David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story), got a new trailer
    • Based on the Arthurian legend, the Dev Patel led film hits theaters on July 30

 

  • The first trailer for Venom: Let There be Carnage was released
    • Bringing on Woody Harrelson as the titular villain Carnage, the sequel to the 2018 anti-hero movie arrives on September 24

 

  • The first trailer for the latest in the long-running action-horror The Purge franchise, The Forever Purge, was released
    • The film is set to hit theaters on July 2
