Here’s a look at some of last week’s highlights in gaming:

  • Bonnie Ross, co-founder and head of Halo developer 242 Industries, has departed the company in order to attend “to a family medical issue”
  • On 9/13, Nintendo streamed a new Nintendo Direct to showcase several new game announcements and updates. Take a look below for some of the highlights

 

  • Fire Emblem Engage was announced for Nintendo Switch, releasing Jan. 20, 2023

 

  • The award-wining co-op game It Takes Two is coming to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 4

 

  • Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, a remaster of the Japan exclusive horror game, is coming to Nintendo Switch in early 2023

 

  • A new character, Ino, was revealed to be part of Xenoblade Chronicles 3‘s expansion pass as part of Wave 2

 

  • A Fist of the North Star themed Fitness Boxing game was announced for the Nintendo Switch, releasing March 2023 

 

  • Indie darling Tunic will come to Nintendo Switch on Sept. 27

 

  • Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, a remake of the Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, was announced 
    • The farming sim will release in Summer 2023

 

  • Splatoon 3‘s first Splatfest will run from 9/23 – 9/25, featuring the choices to represent what players would bring to a deserted island (Gear, Grub, or Fun)

 

  • Square Enix announced Octopath Traveler II for Nintendo Switch, releasing on Feb. 24, 2023

 

  • Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, a rhythm game celebrating Square Enix’s various RPG franchises, is coming to Nintendo Switch on Feb. 16, 2023

 

  • Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope got a new trailer ahead of the game’s Oct. 20 release date on Nintendo Switch

 

  • Several more Nintendo 64 games are getting added to Nintendo Switch Online, including Mario Party 1-3, both Pokémon Stadium games, and the surprising announcement that GoldenEye 007 would release with online play sometime in the future

 

  • Japanese indie horror game Ib is coming to Nintendo Switch in Spring 2023

 

  • A new update to Mario Strikers: Battle League was revealed, adding Pauline and Diddy Kong as new playable characters later in September

 

  • The next wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass courses was announced  to be releasing this holiday

 

  • Golf, previously announced to be added this Fall, is coming to Nintendo Switch Sports this Winter

 

  • Shigeru Miyamoto joined the Direct to announce Pikmin 4, scheduled to release on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023

 

  • Platinum Games released a new trailer for Bayonetta 3 ahead of the game’s release on Oct. 28

 

  • A longer gameplay showcase video for Bayonetta 3 was also released by Nintendo after the Nintendo Direct

 

  • Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE, a new mystery game from the developers of the Danganronpa series, was announced for Nintendo Switch
    • The game is set to release in Spring 2023

 

  • Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 7, and the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes are coming to Nintendo Switch as streamable cloud games 

 

  • Martial arts battler Sifu is coming to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 8

 

  •  Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, a remaster of the 2008 action RPG, is coming to Nintendo Switch on Dec. 13

 

  • Tales of Symphonia Remastered, a remaster of the beloved 2003 JRPG, is coming to Nintendo Switch and other consoles in early 2023

 

  • Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe, a remake of the 2011 Nintendo Wii game, was announced for Nintendo Switch on Feb. 24, 2023

 

  • To cap off the Nintendo Direct, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild got a new trailer, title, and release date
    • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom releases for the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023

 

  • Following the Nintendo Direct, Microsoft announced that GoldenEye 007 would also come to Xbox GamePass and be added to Rare’s Rare Replay collection with 4K support and more
    •  The remaster will not support online multiplayer however

 

  • Not to be outdone, Sony streamed a new State of Play to reveal and showcase updates on new and existing PS5, PS4, and PSVR2 games

  • Bandai Namco kicked off the showcase by revealing Tekken 8
    • The trailer showcases the fighter using Unreal Engine 5, with more info to come in the future

 

  • Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge was announced for PSVR2, arriving sometime in 2023

 

  • Like a Dragon: Ishin!, the previously Japan exclusive Yakuza game set in samurai-era Japan, is getting remade for modern platforms
    • The spin-off is set to release in Feb. 2023

 

  • Pacific Drive, a supernatural car driving thriller from Ironwood Studios, was revealed
    • The studio’s debut game releases sometime in 2023

 

  • Sony introduced a new look at their new PlayStation rewards program, PlayStation Stars

 

  • Previously revealed as Project Eve, Stellar Blade was given a new trailer and a release window of sometime in 2023

 

  • Rise of the Ronin, an open world action RPG from Team Ninja (Nioh series, Dead or Alive series), was revealed from Koei Tecmo
    • The game has a release window of sometime in 2024

 

  • To end the State of Play, a new God of War Ragnarok trailer was revealed ahead of the the game’s Nov. 9 release

 

  • A new God of War Ragnarok themed DualSense controller was also revealed, and will release alongside the game

 

  • Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gokuto streamed several announcements following Sony’s State of Play

  • A new spinoff game, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, a spinoff game following protagonist Kiryu following Yakuza 6,  was announced to release in 2023

 

  • A brand new entry in the series was also confirmed, tentatively titled Like a Dragon 8
    • The titles of the games announced have indicated a switch from using Yakuza to Like a Dragon as the series name going forward

 

  • Judgement and Lost Judgement were also announced to be coming to PC via Steam

 

  • Arkane Studio’s  and Bethesda’s Deathloop, released on PC and PS5 last year, is coming to Xbox and GamePass on Sept. 20 with new content

 

  • Blizzard released a new trailer for Kiriko, a new support hero for the upcoming Overwatch 2

 

  • Blizzard also detailed Overwatch 2‘s Season 1, including the game’s new Battle Pass system
    • New heroes Sojourn and Junker Queen will be unlocked at the start, with Kiriko unlocking for new players at level 55 on the free Battle Pass
      • Those who own Overwatch or purchase the premium Battle Pass will automatically unlock the hero

 

  • Capcom revealed four classic fighters coming to Street Fighter 6 in Ken, Blanka, Dhalsim, and E. Honda in a new trailer
    • The trailer also showcases some of the game’s single player World Tour mode, Battle Hun online, and expanded modes
    • A beta for SF6 is scheduled for October

 

  • Capcom also released Street Fighter 6‘s opening cinematic, teasing the game’s full roster

 

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare II‘s multiplayer gameplay, as well as Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 was revealed during Activision’s Call of Duty Next event
    • Call of Duty Modern Warfare II releases on Oct. 28, and Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 will release free to play on Nov. 16 alongside both game’s joint Season 1

 

  • During the Official PlayStation podcast, it was confirmed that original PSVR game will not be compatible with PSVR2 according to Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at PlayStation (via PlayStation)
