Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:


  • MLB The Show 21 has added the “Field of Dreams” park from this year’s MLB game played in Dyersville, Iowa as a free update


  • Ninja Theory’s Hellbade: Senua’s Sacrifice has recently been optimized for Xbox Series X/S as a free update to those who own the game on either platform


  • Nintendo hosted a new Indie World showcase, taking a a look at several new and upcoming indie developed titles coming to Nintendo Switch including 
    • Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, from Team Reptile (Lethal League series), is coming to Nintendo Switch as a timed console exclusive in 2022
    • Loop Hero, previously released on PC from developer Four Quarters and published by Devolver Digital, is coming to Nintendo Switch this holiday
    • A new look at Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, coming to Nintendo Switch this holiday
    • Another look at Metal Slug Tactics, an RTS spin on the classic 2D SNK action game, will come to Nintendo Switch in 2022
    • Tetris Effect: Connected is coming to Nintendo Switch on Oct. 8
    • Multiplayer beat’em up party game Gang Beasts is coming to Nintendo Switch this fall
    • Eastward, from developer Pixpil and publisher Chucklefish is coming to Nintendo Switch on Sept. 16
    • Several indie games were released on the platform, including the following:
      • Necrobarista: Final Pour from Route 59
      • The long-anticipated Axiom Verge 2 from developer Thomas Happ
      • Boyfriend Dungeon from developer Kitfox Games
      • Islanders, a relaxing RTS game from developer Grizzly Games
      • Garden Story, from Picogram and Rose City Games
      • Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition is now available on Nintendo Switch
      • Roguelike Curious Expedition 2 from Maschinen-Mensch and Thunderful Games
  • Diablo 4 game director Luis Barriga, lead designer Jesse McCree, and Word of Warcraft designer Johnathan LeCraft are all no longer part of Activisioon Blizzard in the wake of the company’s issues with multiple allegations and lawsuits regarding sexual harassment and discrimination (via Kotaku)


  • EA and DICE released a new story trailer for Battlefield 2042, setting up the plot for the multiplayer shooter, and featuring the return of Battlefield 4‘s Kimble “Irish” Graves played by actor Michael K. Williams
  • Updated remasters of Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City, and San Andreas are getting updated remasters for PC, Xbox consoles, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Nintendo Switch sometime this fall (via Kotaku)


  • In movie/gaming news, actor Iris Elba teased with confirmation that he will voice Knuckles in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel
    • The film is set to release in spring of 2022


  • The first trailer for FX’s Impeachment: American Crime Story was released, showing the season’s focus on the story of President Bill Clinton’s impeachment and extra-marital affair with Monica Lewinski
    • The series premieres on Sept. 7


  • The first trailer for Prisoners of the Ghostland, starring Nicolas Cage, was released
    • Coming from Japanese director Sion Sono, this gonzo action movie releases on Sept. 17


  • The first trailer for Netflix’s Midnight Mass, from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan, was released
    • The series arrives on Sept. 24
