Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • In an update on Sony’s PlayStation Blog, SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan announced that those who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for no additional fee (via PlayStation Blog)
    • The game initially had no reported upgrade path for those who purchased the PS4 version 

 

  • Developer/publisher Tripwire Interactive, known for games such as Killing Floor 2 and Maneater, announced that the company’s CEO John Gibson has stepped down after recently making statements on Twitter in support of Texas’ recent controversial anti-abortion law
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator’s Top Gun: Maverick expansion has been delayed until May 27, 2022 long with the film’s delay (via Microsoft Flight Simulator)

 

  • September’s free PlayStation Plus games are now available for subscribers, which includes Overcooked: All You Can Eat, Hitman 2, and Predator: Hunting Grounds

 

  • Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics/Eidos Montreal gave outline for content coming to Marvel’s Avengers through the end of the year
    • The roadmap has revealed that the game’s first raid, as well as the addition Spider-Man on PlayStation platforms will happen by the end of this year

 

  • Lego and Nintendo revealed a new collaboration, the Lego Super Mario ? Block
    • The playset opens up to reveal four world from Super Mario 64, and can be used with the interactive Lego Mario or Lego Luigi figures
  • Sony hosted a new PlayStation Showcase on Thursday 9/9, showcasing new and upcoming games coming to PS4 and PS5, take a look below for some of the highlights

 

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake was announced as a timed exclusive for PC and PlayStation 5
    • The remake of the classic RPG is being developed by Aspyr, known for their work on ports of classic Sar Wars games such as Star Wars: Republic Commando, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Star Wars Episode I: Racer

 

  • South Korean studio Shift Up revealed a new trailer for Project Eve, a fast-paced action game originally revealed in 2019

 

  • Gearbox showed off a new look at Borderlands spinoff Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands with a Baby Metal tinged trailer
    • The game releases on PC and consoles on March 25, 2022

 

  • Square Enix and developer Luminous Studios showed a new look at Forspoken
    • The game is set to release Spring 2022 for PC and PlayStation 5

 

  • Remedy Entertainment released the first trailer for the previously announced Alan Wake Remastered
    • The remaster comes to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 on Oct. 5

 

  • Rockstar Games released a new trailer for the updated versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, now coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in March 2022

 

  • Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo got a new trailer, showing off new gameplay from the horror-themed first-person action game
    • The game is still set to releases exclusively on PC an PS5 in 2022

 

  • Square Enix and Eidos Montreal released a new trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, showcasing new gameplay and characters that players can expect when the game releases on Oct. 26

 

  • A teaser trailer for Radiohead’s Kid A Mnesia digital exhibition, coming to PS5 in November from both Radiohead and Epic Games, was released

 

  • Tchia, from New Caledonian developer Acaweb, got its first trailer
    • The indie title releases on PC, PS5, and PS4 sometime in 2022

 

  • Remasters of Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: Lost Legacy are coming to PS5 and PC in early 2022 as a package titled Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

 

  • In a surprise announcement, developer Insomniac announced that are collaborating with Marvel on Marvel’s Wolverine

 

  • Insomniac also revealed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, teasing villains Kraven and Venom
    • The sequel is set to release in 2023

 

  • Gran Turismo 7, the next entry in the long-running sim racing series, is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on March 4, 2022

 

  • Sony ended their PlayStation Showcase with a first look at God of War Ragnarok
    • The game is set to release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sometime in 2022

 

  • Fortnite‘s latest in-game event brought the game’s Season 7 to a close, with Season 8, including a new battle pass
    • The pass includes Marvel villain Carnage as an unlockable skin

 

  • In movie news, the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections was released after days of teasers/promotions
    • The fourth Matrix film releases in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 22

 

  • Paramount Plus released the first trailer for season 2 of Star Trek: Picard
    • The new season begins streaming in Feb. 2022

 

  • Fox released their first trailer for Ron’s Gone Wrong, an animated feature  about a robotic friend gone haywire
    • The CG animated comedy releases on Oct. 22
