Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Google has announced the closure of its internal game development studios, Stadia Games and Entertainment
    • The tech company will continue to support the game streaming service


  • San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis, Jr. will be the cover athlete for MLB The Show 21
    • The game comes to PS5, PS4, as well as Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One for the first time on April 20


  • God of War has been updated for PlayStation 5, adding enhanced performance/graphics as a free update


  • Yakuza spinoff Judgement is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia on April 23


  • Destiny 2‘s Season of the Chosen is now available on all platforms


  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the remasters of the original trilogy of games including all DLC, was revealed in full by developer BioWare
    • The classic sci-fi RPG series releases on May 14
    • In an interview with Metro UK, project director Mac Walters mentioned that the team worked in minor updates to the controversial camera angles on characters like Miranda in the remasters (via Metro UK)


  • EA Sports is returning to college football with a new game in development
    • While the game will feature more than 100 colleges, real player names will not be used as of now


  • Apex Legends is coming to Nintendo Switch on March 
  • Gearbox Software has been acquired by the Embracer Group, a parent company that includes publishing and development studios THQ Nordic, Saber Interactive, Koch Media, and Deep Silver (via Polygon)


  • Sega and developer Creative assembly announced Total War: Warhammer III
  • Valve has been fined $4M as a result of a Steam Controller patent infringement lawsuit (via Polygon)
  • A fan-created Sonic the Hedgehog Lego set has received the green light, a set based on Sonic Mania‘s version of Green Hill Zone (via Polygon)


  • Martin Zarate became the first person hit all 190 credits in the credits sequence for Super Smash Bros. Melee


  • Zenimax Media founder and CEO Robert A. Altman has passed away at the age of 73
  • A ROM of the recently discovered cancelled Goldeneye 007 remake originally planned for the Xbox 360’s XBLA has been widely distributed on various file sharing sites (via Polygon)
  • Activision Blizzard has reported that Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 will not release in 2021 (via Polygon)


  • Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has been delayed indefinitely to take more development time 


  • Data miners have found the original names for every sound file in the Super Mario World soundtrack, and have re-created the entire score using the original instruments in uncompressed format


  • Final Fantasy XIV‘s next expansion, titled Endwalker, was revealed
    • The expansion is planned to release Fall of 2021


  • Square Enix also provided a first look at footage of the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV
    • An open beta for the PS5 version will arrive on April 13


  • In animation/streaming/games news, a 3D animated Sonic the Hedgehog series titled Sonic Prime is coming to Netflix in 2022
  • 4K remasters of The Lord of the rings trilogy of films will come to IMAX on Feb. 12 (via Polygon)


  • A 3D animated Pacific Rim series is coming to Netflix, titled Pacific Rim: The Black
    • The series releases on March 4


  •  The first trailer for director M. Night Shyamalan’s next film, Old, was released
    • The supernatural thriller releases on July 23


  • The first trailer for Amy Poehler’s Moxie was released
    • The comedy releases on Netflix on March 3
