Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • WWE and 2K Games announced WWE 2K22 during WrestleMania 37, the first WWE video game since WWE 2K20 
    • Last year’s previously planned WWE game had been cancelled due in part of to the critical reception of 2K’s previous efforts

 

  • After releasing the first set of Animal Crossing: New Horizons plushes, Build-A-Bear announced that a new character from the game will arrive this summer
  • The PlayStation 5’s first major update has added support for external USB drives, as well as additional social features for cross-generation Share Play between the PS5 and PS4 (via PlayStation Blog)
  • Quantic Dream, the studio behind  games such as Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, has won a court appeal to throw out a 2018 lawsuit from a former employee alleging that a toxic workplace had caused them to leave the French studio (via Polygon)

 

  • Horizon: Zero Dawn‘s Aloy is now available as part of a limited-time event in Fortnite

 

  • Nintendo is launching a new blue colored Nintendo Switch Lite on May 21

 

  • Blizzard is updating Blizzard Arcade Collection on all platforms with two new games, Lost Vikings 2 and RPM Racing

 

  • BioWare released a new trailer for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, showcasing the game’s updated visuals compared to the original releases
    • The remastered Mass Effect trilogy releases on May 14

 

  • Nintendo streamed a new Indie World Showcase on April 14, with highlights including:
    • 0:43: Road 96 is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year
    • 2:56: Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield comes to Nintendo Switch May 1, with a demo available now
    • 6:58: OlliOlli World, the next entry in the 2D skating series from developer Roll7, is coming to Nintendo Switch this winter
    • 11:06: A new look at retro brawler Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
    • 19:11: A remake of the classic Sega arcade lightgun game, The House of the Dead: Remake comes to Nintendo Switch later this year
    • 19:37: Indie adventure game FEZ, originally released in 2012, is now available on Nintendo Switch
    • 20:42: Oxenfree II: Lost Signals was revealed to end the presentation, scheduled to release sometime this year

 

  • Days Gone is coming to PC on May 18 on the Epic Games Store, Steam, and other digital retailers

 

  • Minecraft’s Caves and Cliffs update has been delayed and split into two parts, with the first releasing this summer and the second releasing this winter
    • Developer Mojang attributed both technical limitations and the COVID-19 pandemic to the delay
  • Ubisoft’s E3 event Ubisoft Forward, will return this year on June 12 (via Ubisoft)

 

  • Capcom hosted another Resident Evil Showcase stream on April 15, showing new footage of Resident Evil Village and more, with details including
    • Resident Evil Village will bring back the much beloved Mercenaries mode 
    • There are several timed demos planned for release, with the first Village demo released from April 17-18 exclusively on PS4 and PS5
      • A Castle demo will release for eight hours on April, with players getting 30 minutes of game time
      • A combined demo will release on all platforms on May 1
    • A crossover with multiplayer horror game Dead by Daylight was also briefly teased, with more info set to be announced at a later date
    • The finish the stream, a partnership with Oculus was revealed for Resident Evil 4 VR

 

  • Genshin Impact‘s next update, Beneath the Light of Jadeite, arrives on April 28 along with an upgrade for the PlayStation 5 version of the game

 

  • In gaming/streaming news, Netflix and Capcom released a brief new look at their CG animated Resident Evil film, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness
    • Set two years after the events of Resident Evil 4, the animated action-horror movie releases on Netflix this July

 

  • The fourth and final season of Netflix’s Castlevania animated series releases on May 13
    • A new series set in the same universe is currently in the works at Netflix

 

  • The first trailer for Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead was released
    • Starring Dave Bautista, the zombie action romp releases on Netflix May 21

 

  • The first trailer for Amazon’s adaptation of The Underground Railroad, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel from Colson Whitehead, was released
    • An alternate history take on the historical system that helped slaves escape the 19-century South, the series premieres on Amazon Prime Video on May 14

 

  • A new trailer for Fast & Furious 9 was released, showcasing John Cena as the series’ latest villain
    • The latest entry in the long-running series releases on June 25
