Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Developer GSC Game World released the first in-game screenshot of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, a followup in the open world survival series set for release in 2021
    • The last entry in the series released in 2009 with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
  • Developer Ndemic Creations has pushed an update to Plague Inc. allowing players to fight a global pandemic, and has donated to funds to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic (via Ndemic Creations)
  • Indie hit The Outer Wilds is coming to Steam on June 18, after almost a year of exclusivity on the Epic Games Store for PC
  • A new trailer for The Wonderful 101: Remastered, successfully funded on Kickstarter last month, revealed that the game will release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC via Steam on May 19
  • Epic Games has announced a publishing deal with several developers, including gen Design (The Last Guardian), Playdead (Limbo, Inside), and Remedy (Control, Alan Wake)
  • Nintendo released a surprise Nintendo Direct Mini on March 26th, detailing some upcoming Nintendo Switch releases, with highlights including:
  • Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, a remaster of the elusive Wii JRPG, will release on May 29
  • Several games in 2K Games’ publishing library will head to Nintendo Switch, including BioShock: The Collection, the Borderlands Legendary collection (a collection of all Borderlands games prior to Borderlands 3), and the XCOM 2 Collection
  • A new DLC pack for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, titled Fantastic Four: Shadow of Doom
  • A small game from Nintendo about causing havoc in an office environment, titled Good Job! got a surprise release
  • A free-to-play battle royale game from GungHo, titled Ninjala, will come to Nintendo Switch on May 27
  • The Panzer Dragoon remake received a surprise release
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy got a surprise release on Nintendo Switch
    • It was also announced that Star Wars Episode I: Racer would release on Nintendo Switch sometime this year
  • New details for Bravely Default II were revealed, as well as a demo for Nintendo Switch
  • Details regarding Pokemon Sword and Shield’s expansions were also detailed
  • Other updates from the Direct included:
    • The next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter would be a character from ARMS, who will get revealed in June
    • Animal Crossing New Horizons‘ Easter-themed event will run from April 1-12
  • Square Enix has temporarily suspended the auto-demolition of housing in Final Fantasy XIV due to the coronavirus epidemic (via Square Enix)
  • The open beta for Resident Evil Resistance, the mutiplayer portion of the Resident Evil 3 remake, has been delayed on PC and PS4 due to technical issues (via Polygon)
  • The organizers at Games Done Quick announced that Summer Games Done Quick has been postponed
    • They announced an online charity event, titled Corona Relief Done Quick, will take place April 17-19 to help support those affected by the epidemic
  • Shantae and the Seven Sirens, the newest Shantae game from developer Wayforward, will release on May 28 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC
    • The game’s second episode is now available on iOS devices in Apple Arcade
  • Samurai Shodown‘s Haomaru will come to Soulcalibur VI on March 31
  • In gaming/movie news, Netflix is reportedly developing a movie based on Dragon’s Lair, starring Ryan Reynolds (via Hollywood Reporter)
  • The first trailer for season 3 of BBC’s Killing Eve was released
    • The new season premieres on April 12th
  • The first trailer for Defending Jacob, a new Apple TV Plus miniseries based on a novel of the same name starring Chris Evans, was released
    • The series premieres on April 24th
  • Netflix is producing an animated adaptation of children’s book The Willoughbys
    • The animated film releases on April 22nd
