Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • EA has out-bid fellow publisher Take-Two, acquiring Codemasters, known for their racing games catalog, for $1.2 billion (via Polygon)


  • Nintendo Switch Online is getting new releases for its NES and SNES catalog including Donkey Kong Country 3


  • Nintendo hosted a new Indie World Showcase, revealing several new and upcoming indie titles coming to the Nintendo Switch including:
    • Hit roguelikes Spelunky and Spelunky 2 are coming to Nintendo Switch in Summer 2021
    • Cyber Shadow, a new action platformer published by Shovel Knight‘s Yacht Club Games, comes to Nintendo Switch on Jan. 26, 2021
    • Studio Amanita Design, known for their puzzle/adventure games, announced next game, Happy Game, which will see release in Spring 2021
    • Super Meat Boy Forever will launch on Nintendo Switch as a console exclusive release on Dec. 23
    • Capy Games’ Grindstone, which originally released on Apple Arcade last year, is now available on Nintendo Switch
    • To cap off the stream, smash hit deception multiplayer game Among Us was announced to be now available on Nintendo Switch


  • Overwatch‘s annual Winter Wonderland event is now live on all platforms through Jan. 5, along with new weekly challenges, cosmetics, and limited-time modes
  • After a week of major issues plaguing the last-gen versions of Cyberpunk 2077, Sony has temporarily pulled the game from it’s digital store on PlayStation consoles (via Polygon)
    • Those who have already purchased the game on the PlayStation Store can go through an approval process to get a refund on the game according to Sony


  • Microsoft has expanded their refund policy to anyone looking to refund Cyberpunk 2077 after purchasing from the Microsoft Store on PC or Xbox


  • Continuing he trend of CD Projekt Red having a difficult time, the publisher’s PC storefront GOG announced, then later renounced, their efforts to bring the Taiwenese first-person horror game Devotion to its platform
    • Devotion originally released on Steam in 2019, but was pulled due to a controversial Easter egg involving China’s president


  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone‘s Season 1 is now live on all platforms
    • The season brings new maps, cosmetic items, guns to standard multiplayer and Warzone


  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is running a free multiplayer trial until Dec. 24


  • Cyberpunk 2077 content is coming to the PC version of Death Stranding
  • Among Us is now available on Xbox Game Pass for PC, and will come to Xbox Game Pass for Console in 2021 (via Xbox)


  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai directed a showcase of Sephiroth, the game’s latest DLC fighter
    • The Final Fantasy VII villain will come with a new stage, music, and more
    • Sakurai also revealed a limited-time mode available from Dec. 17-22 where players can battle Sephiroth and gain access to the fighter before his original Dec. 22 release date


  • A new round of Mii Fighter costumes will also be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, including several Final Fantasy-themed ones as well as Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars


  • Nintendo hosted a unique Nintendo Direct in which Shigeru Miyamoto hosted a tour through the brand new Super Nintendo World attraction at Universal Studios Japan


  • Control Ultimate Edition is launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S digitally on Feb. 2, 2021 and at retail on March 2, 2021


  • Ghosts of Tsushima is adding new PlayStation game-themed outfits to its Legends multiplayer mode, free to those who play a mission with each class until Jan. 15, 2021


  • Dragon Ball GT villain Super Baby 2 is coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ as he game’s latest DLC fighter
  • Best Buy has also joined digital storefronts in allowing refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 until Dec. 21, including opened copies (via Xbox)


  • In movie/streaming news, Apple TV released the first trailer for Palmer, a drama starring Justin Timberlake  
    • The film releases on Jan. 29 on Apple TV+


  • Netflix released the first trailer for Outside the Wire, a sci-fi action movie starring the MCU’s Falcon, Anthony Mackie


  • Marvel and Disney released a new short trailer for its upcoming WandaVision series
    • The Marvel series premieres on Jan. 15, 2021
