Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Next year’s entry in Arc System Works’ long running Guilty Gear fighting game series finally got its full name, Guilty Gear Strive
  • Limited Run Games will be releasing a physical vinyl of Tetris Effect‘s soundtrack to celebrate the first anniversary of the game’s release on PS4
  • Amy Hennig, former creative director at Naughty Dog on the Uncharted series, has joined Skydance Media to work on a new “interactive series” (via Polygon)
  • Destiny 2‘s next season, Season of Dawn, will start on Dec. 10 (via Bungie)
  • Borderlands 3‘s first campaign expansion, titled Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, will release on Dec. 19
  • Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich was announced as the cover athlete for RBI Baseball 20, releasing sometime next year
  • Last weekend’s launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield sold approx. 6 million units worldwide, the “highest-grossing launch of any Pokémon game,” according to Nintendo (via Polygon)
  • In a surprise announcement that had been leaked earlier in the week, Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx, a VR exclusive Half-Life game set prior to the events of Half-Life 2
    • Releasing in March 2020 on Steam, the game is powered by Valve’s SteamVR software and will be compatible with all PC-based VR headsets, including Valve Index, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality
    • Those who purchase the Valve Index VR headset will get free access to the game on launch
  • The nominees for the 2019 Game Awards have been revealed (via The Game Awards)
  • State of Decay 2 will come to Steam in “early 2020” according to the game’s store page (via Polygon)
  • Amazon may be announcing their entry into the game-streaming arena in 2020 (via CNET)
  • In movie news, it was revealed that actor John Turturro (The Big Lebowski, Barton Fink) will play crime boss Carmine Falcone in Matt Reeves’ The Batman
  • Disney/Lucasfilm released a new TV spot for the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
  • The first teaser trailer for horror film Antebellum, starring actor/singer Janelle Monáe, was released
    • The film releases in spring 2020
  • The final trailer for Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman was released
    • The latest from the acclaimed director releases on Netflix on Nov. 27
  • The first trailer for The Call of the Wild, based on the acclaimed Jack London novel, starring Harrison Ford was released
    • The film hits theaters on Feb. 21, 2020
