Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Super Smash Bros. Utimate‘s latest DLC fighter was revealed to be Min Min, from 2017’s Arms
    • Game director Masahiro Sakurai hosted a breakdown of the fighter, and showed off a collection of new cosmetic and gameplay DLC coming to the game
    • Min Min is now available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 

  • After initially getting leaked days prior, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time was revealed
    • Developed by Toys for Bob (Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Skylanders series), Crash returns on October 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
  • Microsoft is shutting down Mixer, the company’s streaming platform, and migrating it’s services and content to Facebook Gaming
    • Microsoft’s Project xCloud game streaming platform will also start appearing on Facebook in the near future (via Polygon)
  • Facebook has also acquired developer Ready at Dawn (The Order: 1886, Lone Echo) to be part of its game development partnership (via Polygon)

  • Developer Cellar Door Games revealed a first look at Rogue Legacy 2, which will release in Early Access on PC (on both Steam and the Epic Games Store) on July 23

  • Fortnite players were treated to a movie night in the game, as players were able to watch one of several Christopher Nolan movies depending on their region

  • The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon UNITE, a MOBA game made in partnership with publisher Tencent
    • Coming to both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, the game will feature crossplay
    • There is no release date for the game as of yet

  • Developer Sam Barlow (Her Story, Telling Lies) started teasing his next game on Twitter 

  • Marvel hosted its first Avengers War Table stream, showcasing gameplay from the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers, and revealing M.O.D.O.K as the game’s villain
    • Marvel’s Avengers releases on September 4 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia
    • It was also revealed that players would be able to upgrade their game for free on next-generation consoles 

  • A new trailer for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 revealed some of the new skaters getting added to the remake’s roster
    • As a pre-order bonus, a demo of the original Warehouse level will be available on August 14
    • The game launches on September 4 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One

  • 343 Industries released a brief teaser trailer for Halo Infinite, revealing that Halo Wars 2 enemy faction, The Banished, may make a return

  • A new update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will add the ability to go swimming and diving on your island
    • The update goes live on July 3

  • Developer CD Project Red hosted it’s first Night City Wire stream for Cyberpunk 2077, showcasing new gameplay of the highly anticipated title

  • As part of the stream, CD Project Red announced a collaboration with anime producer Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia) in the form of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
    • The anime is set to release in 2022
  • The Steam Summer sale has begun (via Steam)
  • Chuck E. Cheese, the long-running  arcade game and pizza franchise, has filed for bankruptcy protection (via the Associated Press)

  • Popular Twitch streamer Dr. Disrespect has reportedly been permanently banned from the platform
  • Last week also saw widespread allegations of abuse, harassment, and more in several industries 
    • Polygon has a wrapup of just some of the allegations going on in the worlds of gaming, comics, and more (via Polygon)
  • In gaming/TV news, Disco Elysium is reportedly getting a TV adaptation (via Variety)  
  • In movie news, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has been delayed again, now releasing in theaters on July 31 due to the COVID-19 pandemic (via Polygon)
  • Disney’s live-action Mulan has also again been delayed to August 21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic (via Polygon)

  • The first trailer for Apple TV Plus’ adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation was released

  • Disney offered a first look at the Disney Plus recording of Hamilton, which comes to the streaming service on July 3

  • Hulu released a teaser trailer for the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale, set to release sometime next year 

  • Disney released a trailer for Muppets Now, a new Muppets variety show debuting on Disney Plus starting July 31
