  • Riot released details on Valorant‘s Episode 2, showing off new operator Yoru
  • Sony revealed the release dates/windows of several PS5 games at CES, including:
    • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – 2021
    • Horizon Forbidden West – 2021 (also coming to PlayStation 4)
    • Returnal – March 19, 2021
    • Kena: Bridge of Spirits – March 2021 (also coming to PS4)
    • Solar Ash – June 2021 (also coming to PS4)
    • Little Devil Inside – July 2021 (also coming to PS4)
    • Stray – October 2021 (also coming to PS4)
    • GhostWire: Tokyo – October 2021

  • Nintendo released a new gameplay preview of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury for Nintendo Switch, showcasing the games added Bowser’s Fury expansion
    • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury releases on Feb. 12

 

  • A more detailed look at Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury from Nintendo shows off gameplay from both the main game and expansion, as well as new additions such as online play and photo mode

  • Nintendo also revealed a new Mario-themed Nintendo Switch, releasing on Feb. 12

  • New Pokémon Snap received a new gameplay trailer, revealing that the game will release on Nintendo Switch on April 30

 

  • Respawn released an update for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to improve performance and graphical fidelity on both Xbox Series X/S and PS5

 

  • As part of Lucasfilm Games’ new initiative in games production, Bethesda teased an Indiana Jones game in development from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames

 

  • Another part of Lucasfilm Games’ initiative is a collaboration with Ubisoft and The Division developer Massive Entertainment to develop a new Star Wars game

 

  • Overwatch is featuring a new limited-time event called Kanezaka Challenge until Jan. 25
    • The event allows players to earn a limited skin for Hanzo, as well as other cosmetics to celebrate the release of the game’s new deathmatch map

 

  • Hogwarts Legacy, the open world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe revealed last year, has been delayed to release sometime in 2022

 

  • CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski released a video apology on the status on Cyberpunk 2077, and detailed some of the development obstacles and the current roadmap for updates and content drops

 

  • Capcom will host a Resident Evil Showcase on Jan. 21 at 2pm PST to reveal new gameplay and details for Resident Evil Village

 

  • Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War will receive a new Zombies map on Feb. 4, free to all players
    • Cold War developer Treyarch also detailed the new maps and modes coming to standard multiplayer (via Treyarch)
  • The opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan has been postponed due to a COVID-19 spike in the area (via Polygon)
  • Ubisoft’s open world sports game Riders Republic has been delayed indefinitely (via Polygon)

 

  • Activision-Blizzard’s Battle.net game launcher received a huge overhaul to improve player experience 
  • Star Wars Battlefront II is free to own on the Epic Games Store until Jan. 21 (via Epic Games)

 

  • In movie/Marvel news, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that the next Deadpool movie will continue the series’ R-rated tradition and begin filming in 2022 (via Collider)
  • Chris Evans is reportedly set to return as Captain America in a potential future Marvel project (via Deadline)

 

  • The first screens from the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie were revealed, showcasing several of the live-action version of classic MK characters
    • The film is set to release on April 16 in theaters and HBO Max

 

  • The first trailer for Clarice, starring Rebecca Breeds as The Silence of the Lambs‘ Clarice Starling, was released
    • The series premieres on Feb. 11 on CBS and CBS All Access

 

  • The first trailer for black comedy Breaking News in Yuba County, from director Tate Taylor (Ma, The Girl on the Train) was released
    • Starring an ensemble cast including Allison Janney, Mila Kunis, Akwafina, and Regina King, the film is set to release on Feb. 12

 

  • The first trailer for the Tom Holland led Cherry, directed by frequent Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo, was released
    • The film is set to release in theaters on Feb. 26, and Apple TV+ on March 12
