Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Publisher Bandai Namco ran a blood drive at this weekend’s TwitchCon in collaboration with the American Red Cross
    • Those who pre-registered received a free copy of Code Vein
  • Sony/PlayStation is working with with United Nations and several console makers, game developers and publishers in the “Playing for the Planet Alliance” an effort by console manufacturers to reduce carbon emissions waste, and use less power (via PlayStation Blog)
  • A Fallout 76-themed collectible helmet sold by GameStop is being recalled due to dangerous levels of mold tat can be found inside its liner (via Polygon)
  • Square Enix released new gameplay footage of Final Fantasy VII Remake from Tokyo Game Show earlier this month
  • Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s final box art was also revealed
  • Sony ran it’s latest State of Play livestream on 9/24, with several announcements and reveals including:
  • A new game from Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite developer Enhance Games was revealed, titled Humanity
    • The game will include optional PSVR support, and release sometime next year
  • The stream also provided a more detailed look at the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s story campaign
    • It was also revealed that the “Spec Ops Survival” co-op mode will be exclusive to PS4 for a limited time
  • A new trailer for Wattam, from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, will arrive this December
  • L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is now available on PlayStation VR
  • A demo for this year’s MediEvil remake is now available on PS4
  • The Civilization series comes to PlayStation 4 when Civilization VI comes to PS4 on Nov. 22
  • A Death Stranding themed PlayStation 4 Pro bundle will release on the game’s launch day, Nov. 8
  • MLB The Show 19 and The Last of Us Remastered will be October’s free games for PS Plus subscribers
  • The final minutes of the State of Play revealed a new trailer for The Last of Us Part II, as well as a release date of Feb. 21, 2020
  • Along with the release date announcement, Naughty Dog announced that The Last of Us Part II will not any multiplayer (via Polygon)
  • A new Medal of Honor Game. titled Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, is being developed for Oculus Rift by Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Apex Legends)
  • A new trailer for Respawn”s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released, showcasing more gameplay and story details
  • Respawn also revealed new details on Season 3 (titled “Meltdown”) of Apex Legends
    • The new season starts on Oct. 1, and a new update will add a brand new map to the game called “World’s Edge”, new weapon , and new character Crypto
  • The Pokรฉmon Company announced a 24-hour livestream for Pokรฉmon Sword and Shield on Oct. 4, promising to showcase more details on the game’s new Pokรฉmon  (via Pokรฉmon)
  • DOOM Eternal will contain classic DOOM skins for players registered to Bethesda/id’s Slayer Club and have bought either DOOM, DOOM II, or DOOM 3‘s re-releases (via DOOM reddit)
  • In movie news, Disney’s Frozen 2 received a new trailer ahead of its Nov. 22 release
  • A new teaser, and a full new trailer, for Netflix’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie debuted during the Emmy’s
    • The film arrives on Netflix on Oct. 11
  • A new trailer for Martin Scorcese’s latest movie, The Irishman, was released
    • The film hits theaters in a limited capacity on Nov. 1, and debuts on Netflix on Nov. 27
  • The first trailer for the sixth and final season of BoJack Horseman debuted
    • The last season premieres on Oct. 25
  • The first trailer for Uncut Gems was released, starring Adam Sandler
    • Directed by the Safdie Brothers (Good Time), the thriller also stars Lakeith Stanfield, and former NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett
    • The film releases in theaters this December
  • The current Spider-Man MCU film series will continue under a joint Sony and Marvel partnership for at least one more movie starring Tom Holland (via The Hollywood Reporter)
