Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Sony has outlined which PS4 peripherals & accessories will work on the upcoming PlayStation 5
    • Of note, the PS4’s DualShock 4 will not work on games built for PlayStation 5 (via PlayStation Blog)
  • League of Legends’ 2020 World Championship will take place  entirely within Shanghai to safeguard players during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (via Polygon)


  • Valorant‘s Act 2 battlepass is now live, bringing new cosmetics to Riot’s free-to-play strategy shooter


  • Spider-Man will be an exclusive character to the PlayStation version of Marvel’s Avengers, coming to the game post-launch sometime next year
  • An update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection will bring cross-play, keyboard and mouse support on Xbox, as well as input-based matchmaking by the end of this year (via Halo Waypoint)


  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone has launched Season 5 of its content drops, including major changes to Warzone‘s map, new cosmetics, operators, weapons, and standard multiplayer maps
  • Infinity Ward Design Director Geoff Smith has said that Call of Duty‘s Warzone battle-royale will continue to be supported, and “it will evolve and become tied to other games in the Call of Duty universe” (via GamesRadar)

  • Developer Treyarch has confirmed that it is working on this year’s Call of Duty title along with Raven Software, known for their support work on several Call of Duty games


  • Project xCloud is coming to Android devices on Sept. 15, with over 100 games available at launch
  • After Frog Fractions got a surprise free release on Steam, Frog Fractions 3 was discovered inside the game’s $8 ‘Hop’s Iconic Cap’ DLC for the game (via PC Gamer)


  • Fortnite‘s Joy Ride update will add a variety of cars with a fully functioning radio with  into the battle-royale shooter


  • Pikmin 3, originally released on WiiU in 2013, is getting a re-release in the form of Pikmin 3 Deluxe coming to Nintendo Switch on Oct. 30


  • EA Sports detailed Madden NFL 21‘s backyard football mode, The Yard, as well as its connection to the Madden NFL 21 mobile app


  • Street Fighter V will get five new characters, as four of them were revealed during the game’s summer update
    • The new characters include Street Fighter veterans Dan Hibiki, Rose, and Oro, as well as newcomer Akira from Capcom’s Rival Schools series
  • The Intellivsion Amico has been delayed until April 2021 (via Polygon)
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons has reportedly sold 22.4M copies since it launched in March, becoming the second highest selling game on Nintendo Switch behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (via Polygon


  • Bethesda announced that both The Elder Scrolls Online and DOOM Eternal will come to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5
    • Players who have purchased either on current-gen consoles will be able to upgrade their versions for free on the respective next-gen console

  • Developer id Software and Bethesda teased DOOM Eternal‘s first campaign DLC, titled The Ancient Gods, Part One
    • The full reveal will happen during GDC at Opening Night Live on Aug. 27


  • Bungie released details and a new trailer regarding Destiny 2‘s  upcoming Season of Arrivals, launching on Aug. 11


  • Season 6 of Apex Legends, titled Boosted, will release on Aug. 18, along with a new character named Rampart
  • Sony streamed a State of Play broadcast, showing off several new and upcoming PS4 and PS5 games

  • Activision and developer Toys for Bob showed a new in-depth trailer showing off gameplay for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time


  • Hitman 3, as well as maps from the previous two Hitman games, will be playable on PlayStation VR when the game releases next year


  • Indie classic Braid, originally released in 2008, is coming to PlayStation in the form of Braid Anniversary Edition sometime in 2021
    • The upgraded game will include enhanced visuals, and developer commentary


  • Developer Giant Squid (Abzu) showed off a new look at The Pathless,  walking through the indie adventure title’s gameplay 


  • The long-awaited Spelunky 2 got a release date trailer, revealing it will come to PS4 (and Steam) on Sept. 15


  • Monster-collecting MMO Temtem, out now in Early Access on PC, will come to PlayStation 5 sometime in 2021


  • Remedy teased its upcoming second DLC for Control, titled AWE
    • The DLC is set to launch on Aug. 22


  • Octodad series developer Young Horses’ Bugsnax got its first gameplay reveal trailer since its announcement trailer on June 11
    • The game releases this year on PC, PS4, and PS5


  • Sony ended their State of Play broadcast with an in-depth look at Godfall
    • Developer Counterplay Games reiterated that all the game’s loot and gear will be unlocked through gameplay only, with no focus on microtransactions

  • After getting revealed on the state of Play stream, publisher Focus Home Interactive issued a statement on developer Limestone Games’ Aeon Must Die! after multiple reports of employee mistreatment, developer ousting, and lack of pay
  • After more than a month after being banned from Twitch, streamer Guy “DrDisrespect” Beahm returned to streaming on YouTube (via Polygon)


  • Rocksteady Studios (Batman: Arkham series) has begun teasing its next project, a Suicide Squad game set to be revealed at DC FanDome on Aug. 22


  • Longtime Capcom and Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono has departed Capcom
  • In movie/Marvel news, director Nia DaCosta (Candyman) is reportedly set to direct the Captain Marvel sequel (via Deadline)
  • Disney’s live-action Mulan remake will come to Disney+ as a premium rental (via Polygon)
  • After abruptly departing HBO Max, the Harry Potter film series will reportedly arrive on NBC’s Peacock streaming service in October (via Vulture)


  • The first trailer for Judas and the Black Messiah, starring Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield, was released
    • Telling the story of the assassination of Illinois Black Panther leader Fred Hampton, the thriller releases next year


  • The first trailer for I’m Thinking of Ending Things, the next film from acclaimed writer/director Charlie Kaufman, was released
    • The Netflix-produced film releases on Sept. 4


  • The first trailer for HBO Max’s sci-fi series Raised by Wolves was released
    • Produced by Ridley Scott, the series premieres on Sept. 3


  • The first trailer for Ratched, an origin series of One Flew Over the Cuckoos’ Nest antagonist Nurse Ratched, was revealed
    • Created by American Horror Story‘s Ryan Murphy and starring Sarah Paulson, the series premieres on Netlfix on Sept. 18
