Weekly Wrapup – Joker’s Trick Edition

Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • Nintendo’s Brain Age series is making a return to the Nintendo Switch, coming on Dec. 27 in Japan only for now
  • Director Hideo Kojima announced that Death Stranding‘s BB, the baby carried around by Norman Reedus’ character Sam, will be able to communicate through the DualShock 4’s controller audio
  • Troy Baker recently discussed his non-involvement in Borderlands 3, saying that Gearbox would not accept his actor union’s terms in order to reprise his role as Rhys from Tales From the Borderlands (via VG247)
  • Sony/PlayStation has announced that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden is departing the company
  • NetherRealm Studios released the first gameplay of the Terminator T-800 in Mortal Kombat 11, coming to the game on Oct. 8
    • Owner’s of the game’s Kombat Pack DLC will also receive new skins for Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade , Kano, and Cassie Cage
  • Sony/PlayStation is dropping the price of PlayStation Now by 50%, down to $9.99/month (via PlayStation Blog)
  • Those who purchase virtual tickets to Blizzard upcoming BlizzCon event will receive World of Warcraft themed skins for Symmetra and Genji in Overwatch, along with other cosmetic items for Blizzard’s other franchises
  • Gearbox is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the release of the original Borderlands with loot drop events every week until Oct. 29 – Nov. 4 (via Borderlands)
  • In other Gearbox news, the ongoing legal dispute between CEO Randy Pitchford and former vice president of legal affairs Wade Callender has been settled (via Polygon)
  • Scottish pop group Chvrches created an end-credit/title track for Death Stranding
    • The soundtrack of the game will also feature other artists such as Major Lazer & Khalid, and The Neighborhood (via Polygon)
  • Kojima Productions also released a new promotional trailer for Death Stranding ahead of the game’s Nov. 8 release
  • Super Mario Maker 2 has added the ability to play with friends in online multiplayer , along with LAN play (via Nintendo)
  • Skybound Interactive announced The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners for VR platforms
  • AlphaDream, the Japanese studio behind Nintendo Mario & Luigi RPG series, has filed for bankruptcy (via Polygon)
  • Several new and returning Pokémon, including what looks like a Galar-region version of Ponyta, were shown sporadically during a 24-hour livestream (via Polygon)
  • Persona 5 Royal will feature DLC that allows players to battle the protagonists from Persona 3 and 4
    • Persona 5 Royal arrives in the West in 2020
  • Leon and Claire, as well as Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, will join Monster Hunter World: Iceborne during a special Resident Evil-themed event
  • A new trailer for Marvel’s Avengers showed off Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, as the latest playable character at New York Comic Con
  • A new trailer for Iron Man VR was also dropped during the event, announcing a release date of Feb. 28, 2020 exclusively on PlayStation VR
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 will be coming to PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher on Nov. 5, as well as the Epic Games Store
    • The game will also come to Steam in December
  • In movie news, the first trailer for Warner Bros/DC’s Birds of Prey was released
    • Starring Margot Robbie in her return as Harley Quinn, the film premieres on Feb. 7, 2020
  • A new trailer for Kingsmen series prequel The King’s Man was released
    • The film hits theaters on Feb. 14, 2020
  • The first trailer for Sam Mendes’ WWI drama 1917 was dropped, the director’s first film since 2015’s Bond film Spectre
    • The film arrives on Dec. 15 this year
  • HBO dropped a new trailer for their upcoming His Dark Materials series, based on the trilogy of fantasy novels by Philip Pullman
    • The first season begins on Nov. 3
  • The first poster for the latest Bond film, No Time to Die, was revealed
    • The 25th Bond film is set to release next spring
