After a week’s hiatus, the Weekly Wrapup is back. For more on the latest from the week of Jul 19, like Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase, to return of G4(?), and more, check out our podcast.

Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • A huge leak of assets, source code, and more was posted by anonymous users on 4chan showcasing early builds of several Nintendo games, scrapped artwork, and much more (via Polygon)

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and Fall Guys are August’s free PlayStation Plus games

  • Ghost of Tsushima‘s latest patch has added a new difficulty mode, combat difficulty option, and has updated text captions 


  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons has released wave two of its summer update, rolling out new features in weekly fireworks shows, and dream islands 


  • Cuphead got a surprise release on PS4 on July 28


  • A new video feature from Noisey and Activision showed of the music that will be featured in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remake, including 37 new artists and 22 returning from the games’ original soundtracks


  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will add a new boss rush mode, new costumes, and more on October 29


  • Riot’s popular free-to-play shooter Valorant is adding a new agent in the form of Killjoy


  • A second Avengers War Table from the developer of the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers was broadcasted on July 29, showcasing new gameplay in the ramp up to the game’s upcoming beta
    • Hawkeye was also teased as the game’s first post-release character
  • Riot has ended its partnership with with proposed $500 billion Saudi Arabian city Neom after concerns from League of Legends community members (via Polygon)


  • Moon, the anti-RPG originally released in 1997 in Japan only, is coming to Nintendo Switch on August 27
  • The Epic Games Store is adding mod support, with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries being the first game to have mod support (via Polygon)


  • The new Battletoads game release date has been revealed to be August 20, and will launch on PC, Xbox One, as well as Xbox Game Pass for console and PC

  • After getting reported earlier in the week, Microsoft and 343 Industries have confirmed that Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer will be free-to-play and support 120 FPS on Xbox Series X
  • After five years, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain players achieved widespread nuclear disarmament in the game’s online mode on PS3 (via PC Gamer)


  • Soul Calibur veteran Setsuka has come to Soul Calibur VI as part of the game’s Season 2 of DLC content


  • Tekken 7 has announced plans for a Season 4 of DLC content and characters, with more details to come


  • Guilty Gear Strive has announced two new characters joining the game’s roster in the form of series veteran Leo Whitefang, and newcomer Nagoriyuki
    • Guilty Gear Strive is planned to release in 2021
  • It was also announced during a Japanese Fighting Games Publishers Roundtable discussion that SNK’s Samurai Shodown will get a third season of DLC (via Destructoid)
  • Publisher Private Division is teaming up with several independent studios on their next games, including Moon Studios (Ori series), League of Geeks (Armello), and Roll7 (OlliOlli series) (via Private Division)


  • With Phantasy Star Online 2 coming to Steam, players will receive free Valve-themed cosmetics for playing the game
  • In gaming/movie news, a live-action adaptation of Beyond Good & Evil is in the works with director Rob Letterman (Detective Pikachu) attached (via The Hollywood Reporter)
  • Ubisoft is also reportedly working on an animated adaptation of the Splinter Cell franchise with Netflix (via Deadline)


  • A new trailer for Bill and Ted Face the Music was released during Comic-Con @Home 
    • The long-awaited sequel arrives in theaters and on-demand September 1


  • The first trailer for season 2 of HBO’s His Dark Materials debuted during Comic-Con @Home


  • Amazon released the first trailer for its new series, Utopia, based on the British series of the same name
    • Starring John Cusack, Rainn Wilson, and more the series begins this Fall
