Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • After a period o downtime, Fortnite has relaunched with Fortnite Chapter 2
    • Chapter 2 includes a new map, several gameplay updates, and an new Battle Pass
  • After years of issues, Volition is finally updating the Steam version of Saints Row 2 after finding the game’s long-lost source code
  • Sonic the Hedgehog will be a playable character in the upcoming Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, releasing on Oct. 29
  • After recent controversy surrounding player punishment during the Hong Kong protests, Blizzard cancelled an event at Nintendo NYC celebrating the launch of Overwatch on Nintendo Switch
  • Overwatch‘s yearly Halloween-themed event, “Halloween Terror”, is now live on all platforms
  • Control developer developer Remedy revealed the addition of a photo mode to all versions of the game (via PlayStation Blog)
  • League of Legends developer Riot Games held a 10th anniversary stream, showcasing several new projects the developer has in the works including:
  • League of Legends is coming to mobile and consoles in the form of League of Legends: Wild Rift sometime in 2020
  • Legends of Runeterra is a League of Legends-themed card game that is now accepting closed-beta invites
  • Project L, a long-rumored League of Legends fighting game (via Polygon)
  • A game code-named “Project A”, a hero-based multiplayer tactical FPS
  • An animated series based in the world of League of Legends titled Arcane
  • The final tease was a game code-named “Project F”, what seems to be a multiplayer dungeon crawler (via Polygon)
  • A new trailer for Pokรฉmon Sword and Shield was released, showcasing the Gigantamax versions of several of favorites including Pikachu, Eevee, Meowth and Charizard
  • The developers behind Vampire: The Masquerade 2 have delayed the game further into 2020 (via Bloodlines 2 Dev Blog)
  • A new live letter for Patch 5.1 of Final Fantasy XIV released, showcasing the Nier: Automata crossover raid planned for the game
  • Ikumi Nakamura, who is touring studios after her exit from Tango Gameworks, shared a video teasing a shared desire to work on a new Okami game with developer Hideki Kamiya at Platinum Games
  • Gears 5 is adding several new characters to its multiplayer suite, including Gears of War villain General RAAM
  • The Gears 5 update also adds characters from the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate
  • Rockstar Games released the first footage of Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC, available Nov. 5
  • Analogue, the manufacturer behind several classic game hardware systems, announced the Analogue Pocket
    • The device will players Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced games along with cartridge adapters for other handhelds as well
    • The Analogue Pocket will also ship with a built in synthesizer for music, and will later have a dock available for connecting to TVs
  • In a new blog from Infinity Ward, the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will include a Battle Pass system with free and paid tiers for cosmetic items (via Activision Blog)
  • Bethesda’s planned update to Fallout 76 to add NPCs to the game’s open world has been delayed into 2020 (via Bethesda)
  • U.S Congress members have urged Activision-Blizzard to rethink its suspension of Hearthstone player Chung โ€œblitzchungโ€ Ng Wai in an open letter to CEO Bobby Kotick (via Polygon)
  • In movie/Marvel news, Kevin Feige has been made Chief Creative Officer of Marvel, adding to his title of Marvel Studios President (via Deadline)
  • Actor John Cho was injured on the set of Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop series, halting production for 7-9 months (via Deadline)
  • The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will release on Oct. 21
  • Disney released a new trailer for its live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp, debuting on Disney+ on Nov. 12
  • The first trailer for The Outsider, an ew HBO series directed by and featuring Jason Bateman and based on Stephen King’s recent horror novel, was released
    • The series premieres Jan. 12, 2020
  • Actress Zoรซ Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts series, Big Little Lies) has been cast as Catwoman/Selina Kyle in 2021’s The Batman (via Deadline)
    • It has also been reported that actor Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Love & Mercy) will appear as The Riddler (via Variety)
