Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Revealed during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest livestream, a collection featuring remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 are coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 4th
  • Also revealed during Summer Games Fest, Epic provided a first look at Unreal Engine 5 running in real time on PlayStation 5
  • Epic also confirmed that Fortnite will be available on next-generation consoles at launch
    • The game will support cross-generation progression, and Epic detailed plans to move the game from Unreal Engine 4 to 5 in mid-2021 (via Epic)
  • Remasters of the Mafia trilogy of games are in the works, as teased by publisher 2K
    • More news regarding the updates are coming May 19th
  • Sony is rebranding Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios teams as PlayStation Studios
  • 2K revealed their first foray into the golf-sim sports genre with PGA Tour 2K21
    • The PGA game releases Aug. 21 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, as well as Google Stadia
  • New gameplay for Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath was revealed, showing off new fighters Sheeva, Fujin, and guest character RoboCop
    • The expansion releases on May 26, along with a game updated adding new stages, Fatalities, and the return of the Mortal Kombat 2‘s Friendships
  • In a surprise announcement, Nintendo revealed Paper Mario: The Origami King
    • The latest entry in the adventure/RPG series comes to Nintendo Switch on July 17
  • Former Microsoft executive and Xbox co-founder J Allard has joined  Intellivision Entertainment to act as global managing director
    • Allard has signed on to help guide Intellivision through the launch of the Amico console, scheduled to launch in October (via Polygon)
  • Tetris Effect is now available on the Oculus Quest
  • Grand Theft Auto V is now free to own via the Epic Games Store until May 21
  • Ubisoft is offering Assassin’s Creed Origins‘ and Odyssey’s Discovery Tour modes for free until May 21 on PC
  • With the cancellation of Evo 2020, the tournament’s organizers are taking it online in the form of Evo Online
    • The tournament’s games will feature:

      • Granblue Fantasy Versus
      • Samurai Shodown
      • Soulcalibur 6
      • Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition
      • Tekken 7

  • Alan Wake is coming to Xbox Game Pass on console and PC May 21st, celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the game’s release (via Polygon)
  • Sony broadcasted its latest State of Play stream, focusing on Sucker Punch’s upcoming Ghost of Tsushima
    • The stream revealed about 18 minutes worth of gameplay
    • Ghost of Tsushima releases on July 17
  • Nintendo released an update for Nintendo Switch Online members, including four new games in its NES and SNES games collection
  • Developer Arc System Works announced the delay of upcoming fighter Guilty Gear Strive to sometime in 2021
  • A recent update to the PC version of Doom Eternal has added Denuvo Anti-Cheat, causing possible system issues for PC players (via Destructoid)
  • In a recent blog post from BioWare, it was revealed that the planned overhaul to Anthem is being lead by a small team and will be a “longer process” (via BioWare)
  • In movie news, director George Miller has revealed in an interview that the next Mad Max film will be a prequel about Fury Road‘s Furiosa
    • Casting is reportedly underway, and Charlize Therom will not be returning to the role for the prequel (via The New York Times)
  • New set photos for the Avatar sequel films revealed some of the new motion capture technology being used on the films
  • The long-in-development/delayed New Mutants film is set to release on Aug. 28 (via Variety)
  • A new Star Trek spinoff series is coming to CBS All Accessin the form of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (via Polygon)
