Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • (Potential spoilers) Ahead of the recently released Marvel’s Avengers, several potential upcoming characters and pieces of content were leaked (via Polygon)
  • With the recent passing of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, Epic Games has added a Black Panther statue as part of its Marvel-themed new season of Fortnite (via Polygon)


  • Indie developer Vlambeer, known for games like Nuclear Throne and Ridiculous Fishing, has announced the studio’s closure after celebrating its 10 year anniversary


  • Nvidia released details on its next generation of graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 3070, RTX 3080, and RTX 3090


  • In the last Avengers War Table stream before the game’s release, Kate Bishop (aka Hawkeye) was revealed to be the first new hero in Marvel’s Avengers


  • Wizards of the Coast unveiled the 2021 roadmap for Magic: The Gathering, and detailed its upcoming Zendikar Rising set
  • In a recent blog post detailing Rocket League‘s transition to a free-to-play model, developer Psyonix revealed that Rocket League will no longer require a PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Online subscription to play online (via Rocket League)


  • Nintendo released a new video detailing upcoming Fall updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons


  • Nintendo released a surprise Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary-themed Nintendo Direct on 9/3, showcasing several new games to look forward to in the coming months including:
    • Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit – A combination toy and game set where players can race virtually through tracks created in their home
      • The set releases on Oct. 16
    • A Super Mario Bros. themed Game & Watch system set to release on Nov. 13 in limited production
    • Super Mario 3D World, originally released on the WiiU in 2013, is coming to Nintendo Switch in the form of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on Feb. 12 2021
    • An online competitive battle-royale style Super Mario Bros. game titled Super Mario Bros. 35 will release on Oct. 1
      • The game is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online members until March 31, 2021
    • Super Mario All-Stars for SNES is now available to Nintendo Switch Online members
    • Several upcoming Super Mario-themed events and cosmetics comming to games like Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
    • To end the announcement video, Nintendo revealed Super Mario 3D All-Stars for Nintendo Switch
      • A collection containing Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy releases on Sept. 18 in limited release (physically and digitally) until March 31, 2021
  • Katamari Damacy Reroll will reputedly come to PS4 and Xbox One on Nov. 19 (via Gematsu)
  • Into the Breach is free on the Epic Games Store until Sept. 10 (via Epic Games)


  • A technically-enhanced version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and will be a free upgrade for owners on current-gen consoles
  • Indie developer Lab Zero Games (Skullgirls, Indivisible) has laid off remaining staff due to financial issues, following a mass exodus in August when co-founder Mike Zaimont was accused of implementing a culture of toxic behavior and sexual harassment by current and former developers (via Destructoid)


  • In movie/DC news, production on The Batman has reportedly been halted due to star Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19 (via Vanity Fair)
  • A new edit of The Godfather: Part III will come in the form of a new cut from director Francis Ford a Coppola titled Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone (via Polygon)


  • A new trailer for Daniel Craig’s find James Bond outing, No Time to Die, was released
    • The final chapter in Craig’s Bond series hits theaters on Nov. 20


  • The second season of The Mandalorian premieres on Disney Plus on Oct. 30
