Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and other nerd-related news:

  • After controversy regarding content in recently released Ion Fury, developer Voidpoint and publisher 3D Realms did an about face on comments that they would patch out the possibly homophobic conrent (via Steam)
  • The first episode of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey‘s expansion The Fate of Atlantis is free until Sept. 1 (via Polygon)
  • The full E3 2019 demo of Dying Light 2 is now available to watch
  • Warframe developers showed off a new Warframe coming in their Saint of Altra update, Gauss
  • A listing for an Overwatch-themed Nintendo Switch case on Amazon has lent credence to a long-rumored port of the popular multiplayer shooter (via Wario64)
  • Mario Kart Tour, a free-to-play mobile version of the venerable racing franchise, is coming to Android and iOS devices on Sept. 25
  • 2K and Epic Games are teaming up for a Fortnite x Borderlands themed crossover, available until Sept. 10
  • Capcom has announced the Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch releasing on Jan. 21, 2020
    • The collection features Mega Man Zero 1-4, Mega Man ZX, and Mega Man ZX Advent
  • The existence of a new Apex Legends character, new weapon, and Halloween-themed skins were leaked via datamining and a GameStop conference (via Reddit)
  • A bundle featuring multiple versions Aladdin and The Lion King games, titled Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King was announced
    • The collection features multiple special features, such as behind-the-scenes artwork and a rewind feature
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition is now available on PS4
    • The game bundles previously the released The City That Never Sleeps DLC
  • Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders 3 are September’s PS Plus games for those who subscribe
  • During a live stream, developer Yacht Club announced Shovel Knight Dig, a spin-off title developed by Nitrome (Bomb Chicken)
  • Yacht Club Games also showed off Shovel Knight Showdown for the first time, a platform-fighter that releases free for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove owners, and will also release as a stand-alone game
  • Yacht Club also revealed a new Shovel Knight: King of Cards trailer, the latest expansion for the platformer that focuses on King Knight
    • The expansion will release in December
  • Yakuza 7 will supposedly be ditching its beat-up-up roots for a strategic turn-based combat system (via Polygon)
  • Capcom has started easing a new Resident Evil game with a Project Resistance website
    • The trailer for the game will be revealed on Sept. 9 ahead of this year’s Tokyo Game Show (via Project Resistance)
  • Indie platfomers Celeste and Inside are free this week on the Epic Games Store (via Epic Games)
  • Indie post-apocalyptic strategy game Overland is releasing on Sept. 19 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
  • Castle Crashers Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch on Sept. 17
  • Destiny 2 lead Luke Smith revealed how seasonal content will work after the launch of Shadowkeep, as players will be able to earn content via a free or paid tier each season (via Bungie)
  • Developer CD Project Red showed an in-depth look at Cyberpunk 2077, detailing their character creator, class system, as well as more gameplay
  • Indie stealth game Untitled Goose Game is heading to PC, Mac, and Nintendo Switch on Sept. 20
  • Gearbox announced that Risk of Rain 2 is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch during their PAX West panel
  • Gearbox also announced that Homeworld 3, a long-waited sequel in the classic RTS series, has gone into development
  • Gearbox and developer People Can Fly announced that Bullestorm: Duke of Switch, a port of Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, is now available on Nintendo Switch
  • Gearbox also went into detail regarding endgame content for Borderlands 3, as well as some of the paid and free DLC coming down the road (via Polygon)
  • Developer Respawn detailed Apex Legends next in-game event, titled Voidwalker (via Apex Legends)
  • Remedy Games is working on fixes regarding performance issues for Control on consoles (via Remedy)
  • In movie news, Disney offered a new look at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during its D23 expo
  • Warner Bros. released the final trailer for Joker ahead of its Oct. 4 release
  • A new trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate was released
  • The first trailer for The King, an adaptation of several of Shakespeare plays, was released
    • The film stars Timothée Chalamet  as King Henry V, Joel Edgerton, as well as Robert Pattinson
  • Disney+ showed a first look at their documentary series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum
  • Netflix released the first trailer for their documentary on bill Gates, titled Inside Bill’s Brain
    • The film releases on Netflix on Sept. 20
