Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Apex Legends launched Season 7, titled Ascension to players on all platforms on Nov. 4
    • The new season sees a new map, a new character in Horizon, weapons, vehicles, as well as a new Battle Pass
  •  Bethesda Softworks’ Todd Howard revealed in a new interview that its upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield would see a large overhaul for the developer’s Creation Engine used in past games (via Polygon)

 

  • 2K Games offered a first look at the next-gen version of NBA 2K21‘s The City mode, an updated and expanded version of past games’ The Neighborhood hub

 

  • Sony revealed that PlayStation 5 consoles will not be sold physically in stores on launch day without pre-orders, and those looking to purchase the new console can purchase online 

 

  • Sony and developer Bluepoint Games released new footage of the upcoming Demon’s Souls remake coming to PS5, showcasing the upgraded graphics, character creator, and options

 

  • Developer Digital Extremes revealed a fist look at its hack-n-slash MMO Warframe running on next-gen hardware, revealing that the game’s updated 4K graphics, better framerate, as well as the ability to play with others across console generations
  • Best Buy has announced that they will no be selling the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in stores during the holiday season, making the new consoles only available to purchase online (via Polygon)
  • Kerbal Space Program 2 has been delayed to 2022 (via Polygon)
  • Developer Treyarch revealed updated to Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War‘s progression system, and how it connects to Warzone as well as last year’s Modern Warfare (via Treyarch)

 

  • Developer BioWare announced a remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy, titled Mass Effect Legendary Edition
    • The original three games come to consoles and PC in Spring 2021 
    • The studio also confirmed that they have a team working on a new Mass Effect game (via BioWare)

 

  • The first gameplay of Rambo, Mortal Kombat 11‘s Mileena was revealed
    • Rambo, Rain, and Mileena join the expanding roster on Nov. 17

 

  • In movie news, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet will see a home release on Dec. 17 (via Deadline)

  • Actor Johnny Depp has stepped down from his role in the Fantastic Beasts series due to allegations against the actor
    • Warner Bros. revealed that Depp’s role as Grindelwald would be recast in future films

 

  • Netflix released the latest trailer for season 4 of The Crown

 

  • The first trailer for George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky was released
    • The sc-fi thriller hits Netflix on Dec. 23

 

  • Disney released the first trailer for the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, coming to Disney Plus on Nov. 17

 

  • Long-time Jeopardy host Alex Trebek passed away on Nov. 8 after his battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer
    • The legendary game show host continued to host the show during his battle
