Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Sony revealed July’s free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers will be NBA NK20, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and a third bonus game in FMV title Erica
    • The games will be available starting on July 7
    • A free theme for PS4 players is also available to celebrate 10 years of PS Plus (via PlayStation Blog)
  • The opening of Universal Studios’ Super Mario World expansion has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic (via Polygon)
  • The long-rumored open world Harry Potter game is reportedly on track to release sometime in 2021 (via Bloomberg)

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare/Warzone received a new update, adding new maps, weapons, as well as a new mode increasing Warzone‘s player limit to 200

  • Hyper Scape, a new free-to-play battle-royale multiplayer shooter was revealed by Ubisoft
    • Developed by the teams behind Rainbow Six: Siege, the game is currently available for those who register for the technical test on PC
  • Developer Niantic (Pokémon Go, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite) and Punchdrunk, the team behind theater experience Sleep No More , are partnering for future projects (via Polygon)
  • Epic Games has removed the “Early Access” label from Fortnite, as it plans to slow down development of Fortnite’s original “Save the world” survival mode
    • The mode will also no longer move to a free-to-play model (via Polygon)
  • Amazon Game Studios has reverted its free-to-play multiplayer shooter, Crucible, to closed beta after a difficult release
    • The game originally released on PC on May 20 (via Polygon)

  • Cards Against Humanity employees are currently unionizing after reports of toxic work culture from former employees of the company

  • Developer Crytek has decided to delay the release of Crysis Remastered after poor reception to a leaked gameplay reveal trailer
    • The game is still set to release later this year
  • Final Fantasy XIV‘s latest patch has been delayed until August 3, according to producer Naoki Yoshida (via Square Enix)
  • Microsoft announced it’s Xbox Summer Game Fest, an event lasting from July 21 – 27 featuring demos for dozens of upcoming games (via Xbox

  • 2K revealed that the late Kobe Bryant will grace the special edition of NBA 2K21, dubbed the “Mamba Forever” edition
    • Players who purchase this edition will have access to both the current-gen and next-gen console versions of the game, as 2K will not offer a free upgrade
    • The next-generation standard versions of NBA 2K21 will also be priced at a higher price-point at $69.99 (via Polygon)

  • Guerrilla Games announced that Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition will launch on PC August 7 on both Steam and the Epic Games Store

  • Publisher Devolver Digital will be hosting a Devolver Direct announcement livestream on July 11, with looks at new and upcoming indie titles

  • Fighting game tournament Evo Online has been cancelled by event organizers after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against organizer and CEO, Joey Cuellar

  • In gaming/streaming news, Bethesda and Amazon are partnering on a series based on the Fallout series, with producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Kilter Films (HBO’s Westworld) at the helm (via Bethesda)
  • Legendary Entertainment has announced a TV series adaptation of indie hit videogame My Friend Pedro, with John Wick writer/creator David Kolstad and producer David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool) on board (via Destructoid)

  • A new trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Soul was released
    • Pixar’s next animated feature releases on November 30

  • Beyoncé’s Black is King, a new visual album from the artist, is coming to Disney Plus on July 31

  • The first trailer for Netflix’s The Old Guard, based on the comic series of the same name and starring Charlize Theron, was released
    • The action film hits Netflix on July 10

  • The first trailer for Respect, a biopic starring Jennifer Hudson as legendary singer Aretha Franklin, was released
    • The film is set to release this holiday
