Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • 2K Games has come under fire for adding unskippable ads during NBA 2K21’s NBA 2KTV loading screens (via Stevivor)

 

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have updated the game with The Haunting of Verdansk, a Halloween-themed limited time event
    • The event adds new modes to both standard multiplayer in Modern Warfare and the Warzone battle-royale, as well as new cosmetics to unlock and purchase such as costumes from Saw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    • The event runs until Nov. 3

 

  • Red Dead Online also gets its own spooky Halloween-themed update in the form of The Halloween Pass
    • The Season Pass runs until Nov. 16

 

  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be further optimized on Xbox Series X/S, adding 120 FPS in both the campaign and multiplayer modes, up to 4K resolution of Series X, and more

 

  • Bandai Namco revealed Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle, a multiplayer battle-royale Pac-Man game
    • The game releases first on Google Stadia on Nov. 17

 

  • Apex Legends also revealed their annual Halloween-themed event, Fight or Fright
    • The event adds new modes, cosmetics, and more through Nov. 3 on all platforms
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has altered the Minecraft characters’ victory screen as part of the game’s latest patch (via Polygon)
  • Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hosted a Twitch stream of popular multiplayer game Among Us along with fellow U.S Representative Ilhan Omar and a collection of high-profile streamers in an effort to encourage voting

 

  • Darkest Dungeons 2 will release in Early Access on the Epic Games Store in 2021

 

  • Nintendo will release digital and physical editions of the original Fire Emblem, now titled Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, on Nintendo Switch on Dec. 4
    • The release marks the first time the original game has seen a Western release, albeit limited with the being offered until March 31, 2021
  • A massive leak of early concept models, prototypes, and assets from Pokémon Sword and Shield was released by hackers that breached Nintendo servers in 2018 (via Polygon)

 

  • Ubisoft games will support cross-platform progression on all platforms with Ubisoft Connect, a relaunch of Ubisoft’s Uplay and Ubisoft Club 
    • Ubisoft Connect launches along with Watch Dogs: Legion on Oct. 29 

  • The first gameplay of Rambo, Mortal Kombat 11‘s latest guest character, was revealed
    • Rambo, Rain, and Mileena join the expanding roster on Nov. 17
  • The remaster of the 1997 Blade Runner adventure game has been delayed to 2021 (via Eurogamer)

 

  • Microsoft and developer The Coalition released details regarding planned updates to Gears 5, including optimization of Xbox Series X/S, enhanced gameplay updates, as well as the ability to swap out hero Marcus Fenix for actor/wrestler Dave Bautista

 

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will get a PlayStation 4/5 exclusive co-op Zombies mode in the form of Zombies Onslaught
    • The mode will be exclusive to the PlayStation owners until 2021
  • Apex Legends will come to Steam on Nov. 4 (via Polygon)

 

  • In movies/games news, actor Tom Holland released the first set photo from the Uncharted movie releasing next year
  • Jared Leto will reportedly return as The Joker in director Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League launching on HBO MAX in 2021 via (The Hollywood Reporter)

  • Disney released the first trailer for Raya and the Last Dragon
    • Tentatively hitting theaters on March 12, 2021, the latest Disney animated film features Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina

 

  • Hulu released the first full trailer for its Animaniacs revival, releasing all 13 new episodes on Nov. 20
