Weekly Wrapup – Sanic Hedgehog Movie Edition

Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • The first two fighters of Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Fighter Pass 3 DLC were revealed to be Ultra Instinct Goku, and Kefla from Dragon Ball Super
    • The new season of characters begins with Kefla’s release on Feb. 28
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Season 2 of content has dropped, which includes new maps, such as a remake of Modern Warfare 2‘s Rust (with more to come), weapons, game modes, and player characters; including a new version on Modern Warfare 2‘s Ghost
    • The game’s seasonal opening movie also teases a possible Battle Royale mode that’s long been rumored
  • Sony’s latest financial report shows that the company reportedly purchased developer Insomniac for close to $229 million (via Polygon)
  • One source of last year’s Pokemon Sword and Shield leaks, Portugese website FNintendo, has been blacklisted by Nintendo (via Polygon)
  • The first trailer for developer People Can Fly’s (Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgement) third-person shooter/RPG hybrid Outriders was revealed
    • The game is set to come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X – as well as PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One – by the end of this year
  • Borderlands 3 is increasing the game’s level cap from 50 to 53, as well as a new difficulty mode called True Takedown Mode (via Gearbox)
  • The Division 2 is getting its first major paid expansion in the form of The Division 2: Warlords of New York
    • The expansion will see players return to the setting of the original game, New York City on March 3rd
  • Geoff Keighley, known for his long-running production and journalistic work in the industry, has announced he will not be participating in this year’s E3 event
  • EA developer Ghost Games (Need for Speed series), has been dissolved and will become a support studio, with Criterion overtaking development of future Need for Speed titles (via
  • Bidding has begun on the prototype Super NES CD-ROM System, aka the ill-fated “Nintendo Play Station” (via Polygon)
  • Sony is reportedly struggling with the price of its PlayStation 5 console, with high demand for memory components and costly parts could drive the price more than expected (via Polygon)
  • Square Enix has released the full opening movie for Final Fantasy VII Remake ahead of its April 10 release
  • In a recent statement on their blog, developer Quantic Dream (Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain) will self=publish future games, bringing them to multiple platforms (via Quantic Dream)
  • Indie darling Untitled Goose Game won Game of the Year, as well as a few other awards, at this year’s annual DICE Awards (via Polygon)
  • In movie news, the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s (The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle for Dogs), The French Dispatch was released
    • Starring Anderson regular Bill Murray, as well as an ensemble class including Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Frances McDormand, and Timothée Chalamet , the film releases July 24th
  • The first trailer for The Green Knight, from acclaimed director David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story)
    • Based on the Arthurian legend, the stylistic film stars Dev Patel and hits theaters on May 29
  • The first teaser for the fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things was released
  • Director Matt Reeves revealed a first look at Robert Pattinson in costume for next year’s The Batman, as well as a piece of music from composer Michael Giacchino
  • The first trailer for The Personal History of David Copperfield, based on Charles Dickens’ novel David Copperfield, was revealed
    • Also starring Dev Patel, and directed by Veep creator Armando Iannucci, the film premieres on May 8th
  • The first trailer for season 3 of Netflix’s Castlevania dropped, revealing the series will return on March 5
