Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • On Oct. 3, Nintendo released a video breakdown of Minecraft‘s Steve and Alex gameplay in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, as well as other upcoming DLC
    • The Minecraft characters are now available

 

  • EA announced a remaster of Criterion’s first Need for Speed game, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
    • Arriving with remastered visuals and crossplay, the remaster of the 2010 racer comes to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on Nov. 6 with the Nintendo Switch version arriving on Nov. 13

 

  • 2K Games have releases the first footage of NBA 2K21 running on next-gen hardware
    • The PS5 (Nov. 12) and Xbox Series X/S (Nov. 10)  versions of NBA 2K21 will launch the same day as their respective consoles
  • The ESRB has listed two Bethesda game collections coming to current and possibly next-generation consoles (via Polygon)
    • The Wolfenstein Alt History Collection would contain all of Machine Games’ Wolfenstein entries, and Dishonored & Prey The Arkane Collection contains Arkane Studios’ Dishnored series as well as 2017’s Prey reboot
  • Sony has revealed a look at PlayStation’s new trophy leveling system, with a new max level at 999 (via PlayStation Blog)

 

  • Sony also released a video breaking down the hardware of the PlayStation 5, showing off the upcoming next-gen console’s inner workings

 

  • Bungie released a new trailer showcasing some of the new weapons and gear players will find in Destiny 2: Beyond Light
    • The Destiny 2 expansion drops on Nov. 10

  • Nintendo’s Treehouse staff livestreamed gameplay of the upcoming Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity for Nintendo Switch
    • The Warriors-styled prequel arrives on Nov. 20

 

  • Mortal Kombat 11 revealed new fighters in its upcoming Kombat Pack 2 DLC, which will include MK veterans Mileena and Rain, along with a surprise guest character in Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo
    • The DLC was announced along with Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, which will contain all the game’s DLC content on Nov. 17
    • Developer NetherRealm Studios also revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 owners will be able to upgrade to next-gen consoles at no extra cost

 

  • Developer Young Horses released a new video showcasing Bugsnax‘s voice cast, as well as he fact that Bugsnax will will release alongside the PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12
  • Sony detailed the PlayStation 5’s backward compatibility with PS4 games, and it looks like only a small list of games will not be playable on the new console (via PlayStation Support)
  • Microsoft has announced a multiyear partnership with games retailer Gamestop to bolster its retail chain (via Microsoft)

 

  • Valorant‘s Act 3 will release on Oct. 13, along with a new character in Skye, new map and new battle pass featuring new cosmetics

 

  • Overwatch‘s annual Halloween-themed event, Halloween Terror, returns Oct. 13

 

  • In movie/Marvel news, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will reportedly have a large role in the next Spider-Man film from Marvel (via The Hollywood Reporter)
    • The news comes the heels that Jamie Foxx will reportedly return as Electro in the next Spider-Man, after playing the villain in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  • The Batman has been delayed to release in 2022
    • The news comes as several Warner Bros. films have been delayed or moved (via Polygon)

 

  • The first trailer for CBS All Access’ adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand was released
    • The series premiere’s on Dec. 17

 

  • The first trailer for The West Wing reunion show was released
    •  A West Wing Special to Benefit When We All Vote debuts on HBO Max Oct.15th

 

  • Amazon released the first trailer for their animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Invincible
    • Starring Steven Yeun, J.K Simmons, Mark Hamill, Sandra Oh, and Seth Rogen, the series premieres in 2021
