Weekly Wrapup – The Game Awards 2019 & More Edition

Here are some of the week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • The next BioShock game is currently in development under publisher 2K Games under a new studio at Cloud Chamber (via Polygon)
  • The PlayStation 4 version of Minecrafy has added cross-platform play as of Dec. 10 (via Polygon)
  • A new deal between the MLB and Sony revealed that the MLB The Show series will be going multiplatform, as early as 2021
  • Sony streamed their last State of Play of 2019, and shared a multitude of announcements, with highlights including:
  • The Resident Evil 3 remake will release on April 3, 2020
    • Resident Evil Resistance, previously announced as Project Resistance, will act as the game’s multiplayer component
  • Kingdom Hearts 3‘s “Re:Mind” DLC will reease on Jan. 23, 2020
  • Predator: Hunting Grounds will release on April 24, 2020
  • Spellbreak, a battle-royale mutiplayer spellcasting game, will release in closed beta in Spring 2020
  • Dreams, from LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule, will come out of early-access and release on Feb. 14, 2020
  • New footage of Babylon’s Fall, a new game from Platinum Games published at Square Enix, was released
  • Finally, Untitled Goose Game was revealed to be coming to PS4 on Dec. 17
    • The game will also release on Xbox One the same day
  • It was recently spotted that Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s boxart revealed the game will most likely be exclusive to PS4 until March 3, 2021
  • Nintendo also held another Indie World livestream, highlighting several upcoming indie titles coming to Nintendo Switch such as:
    • Sports Story, a sequel to 2017’s sports RPG Golf Story
    • Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD will comes to Nintendo Switch in Jan. 2020
    • A new look at Streets of Rage 4
    • Axiom Verge 2, a sequel to the 2015 indie Metroidvania, will release Fall 2020
  • Developer NetherRealm is working on an update to Mortal Kombat 11 that will add crossplay for PS4 and Xbox One players (via Polygon)
  • Ahead of The Game Awards, Steam released a dozen demos for games in development in partnership with the award show in an event called The Game Festival (via Polygon)
  • The Game Awards were streamed live on Dec. 12, and hosted a variety of announcements and new trailers along with its awards including:
  • A new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake was revealed, showcasing new game footage before the game’s release on March 3, 2020
  • A new trailer for No More Heroes 3 was revealed, releasing on Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020
  • Microsoft revealed the name of its next generation console, the Xbox Series X
  • Microsoft also revealed Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, a sequel to Ninja Theory’s 2017 critical hit, will arrive on the Xbox Series X
  • Godfall, a loot driven action RPG published by Gearbox and developed by Counterplay Games, was announced as a launch game for PlayStation 5 and PC next holiday
  • Bravely Default II, a new entry in the Bravely JRPG series, will come to Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020
  • The first Riot Forge game, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, was revealed
    • The game will be the first in a series of several League of Legends universe single player games, this one developed at Airship Syndcate (Battle Chasers: Night War, Darksiders Genesis)
  • Developer Brendan “PlayerUnknown”, known for creating the popular battle-royale shooter PUBG, Greene teased a new game currently only titled prologue
  • Sons of the Forest, a sequel to 2014 survival game The Forest, was teased in a reveal trailer
  • A new trailer for Ori and the Will of the Wisps revealed a new release date of March 11, 2020
  • A brief trailer showcasing the music of Cyberpunk 2077 was shown, revealing the game will feature music from artists like Run the Jewels, AS$P Rocky, and Grimes
  • Gears Tactics, a RTS spinoff of the poplar third person shooter series, will release on April 28, 2020
  • A crossover partnership between Fornite and Star Wars was revealed, along with the announcement that a new clip of the upcoming Star wars: The Rise of Skywalker would release in the game
  • A new trailer for Ghosts of Tsushima was released on the heels of a tease during Sony’s State of Play livestream
    • The game will release sometime in Summer 2020
  • The Wolf Among Us 2 was revealed to be in development at AdHoc Studio under the Telltale Games banner
  • Riot Games also revealed Conv/rgence: A League of Legends Story, an action platformer developed at Double Stallion Games
  • The final announcement from the show was Fast and Furious Crossroads, an vehicular action game based on the hit film series made by Projects: CARS developer Slightly Mad Studios
    • The game will release in May 2020

  • In movie news, the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife was released
    • Starring Paul Rudd, Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard, as well as original Ghostbusters Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, and Ernie Hudson, it releases July 10, 2020
  • The first trailer for In the Heights, a film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Broadway play, was released
    • The musical releases on June 26th, 2020
  • Netflix released its final trailer for The Witcher ahead of the series’ release on Dec. 20
  • A new trailer for season 10 of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm was released
    • The new season starts on Jan. 19, 2020
  • A second trailer for horror film Antlers was released ahead of the film’s debut on April 17, 2020
