Here are some of last week’s highlights in gaming, movies, and more:

  • Bungie detailed the future of Destiny by revealing Destiny 2: Beyond Light
    • The expansion is slated to release on September 22

  • Bungie also detailed this summer’s season of Destiny 2, Season of Arrivals
  • Bungie teased a reveal for Year 4 of Destiny 2, with more information to come during a reveal event on June 9
  • Developer Hello Games’ Sean Murray announced that as of June 11, No Man’s Sky will be updated to include cross-platform play on all platforms (via Hello Games)

  • Developer The Outsiders, a studio headed by David Goldfarb (game director on Payday 2 and lead designer on Battlefield 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2), announced their first game titled Metal: Helsinger 
    • A hybrid FPS and rhythm game featuring a slew of metal bands, the game releases on current and next generation consoles as well as PC sometime in 2021

  • Sega announced a remake of Master System classic Alex Kidd in Miracle World
    • Developed by Merge Games (Streets of Rage 4, Moonlighter), the remake is set to release sometime in 2021
  •  

  • Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (and Warzone) has released, dropping new maps, weapons, modes, and fan-favorite Captain Price as a playable operator into the game
  • Sony live-streamed the reveal of the PlayStation 5, as well as reveal trailer for several triple-A and indie games planning to release on the system, with highlights including:

  • Grand Theft Auto V will release on PlayStation 5 in 2021
    • PlayStation Plus subscribers will get free access to GTA Online when it releases, and PS4 owners will get access to $1 million in game currency per month until the game launches

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced
    • A standalone title in the Spider-Man game series, the game will release this Holiday

  • Square Enix revealed Project Athia, a new game coming from deveoper Lumious Studios and a team of writers led by Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Book of Eli)

  • A new Ratchet & Clank game, titled Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, will come to PlayStation 5
    • The title does not yet have a release date

  • Stray, an indie game made by French developer BlueTwelve Studio and published by Annapurna Interactive, is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2021

  • Returnal, a sci-fi horror shooter from developer Housemarque (Resogun, Nex Machina)

  • A new Little Big Planet-themed platformer, titled Sackboy: A Big Adventure is coming to the PS5

  • A destruction derby-themed racer/action game titled Destruction AllStars was revealed

  • Oddworld: Soulstorm, the first entry in the classic Oddworld puzzle platformer series in several years, had its reveal gameplay trailer during the event

  • Indie developer Ember Lab revealed action adventure game Kena: Bridge of Spirits
    • Previously known for their animation work, this is Ember Lab’s first video game

  • First getting revealed last year at E3 2019, Tango Gameworks’ (The Evil Within series)  Ghostwire: Tokyo showed off a first look at in-game footage

  • Indie developers Superbrothers (Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Sound Shapes) and Pine Scented revealed their next game in the form of JETT: The Far Shore
    • The cinematic adventure game arrives on PS5 this holiday

  • Developer Counterplay Games and Gearbox revealed a first look at Godfall, coming to PS5 and the Epic Games Store this holiday

  • 2K Games showed a first look at NBA 2K21, coming this holiday and featuring New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson

  • The next entry in the long-running Gran Turismo racing series, Gran Turismo 7 was revealed

  • Indie developer Heart Machine (Hyper Light Drifter) showed off another look at their second game, Solar Ash

  • Develop IO Interactive revealed a first look at Hitman 3, coming in January 2021

  • Astro’s Playroom, a sequel to 2018’s VR action platformer Astrobot Rescue Mission, was announced for PlayStation 5

  • Little Devil Inside, the first game developed by indie studio Neostream Interactive
    • The game will come to PS5 as a timed exclusive

  • Octodad developer Young Horses revealed their next game, Bugsnax 
    • The game is set to release on PS4, PS5, and Epic Games Store this holiday

  • A remake of the cult classic Demon’s Souls, originally developed by FromSoftware in 2009 for the PS3, was announced
    • The remake is being developed by veteran remake and port studio Bluepoint Games (Shadow of the Colossus, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection)

  • Developer Arkane Studios (Dishonored series, Prey) showed off the first footage of their next game, Deathloop
    • The first-person action shooter will arrive first on PS5 and PC this year

  • Capcom revealed Resident Evil Village, the eighth main games in the long-running Resident Evil series
    • A story sequel to Resident Evil 7, the survival horror series returns sometime in 2021 

  • Capcom also revealed Pragmata, a new game IP set to release sometime in 2022

  • Guerrilla Games revealed their sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, titled Horizon Forbidden West
    • The PlayStation 5 exclusive does not yet have a release date

  • To end their presentation, Sony finally revealed the PlayStation 5 console hardware
    • The console will come in two form factors, with a Digital Edition featuring no disc drive
    • No price point for either console has been revealed as of yet

  • In Nintendo news, a new trailer for Paper Mario: The Origami King was released showcasing the title’s action-RPG gameplay 
    • Paper Mario: The Origami King releases on July 17 for Nintendo Switch

  • Developer Larian Studios announced tentative plans to launch Baldur’s Gate 3 in early access by August 

  • Disco Elysium, last year’s multi-award winning hit RPG, is now available on the Epic Games Store

  • Acclaimed JRPG Persona 4 Golden received a surprise release on Steam on June 13
    • Originally re-released on PlayStation Vita in 2012 (with the original launching on PS2 in 2008), Persona 4 Golden features several updates to the original game

  • In movie news, the first trailer for Bill and Ted Face the Music was released
    • The third Bill and Ted movie (the first in almost thirty years) arrives sometime this year

  • The first trailer for horror film You Should Have Left was released
    • Produced by Blumhouse and based on the 2017 novel of the same name, the film will release to on demand services on June 18
  • Chrstopher Nolan’s Tenet, as well as several other high-profile film set to release over the next year have been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic (via Cinemablend)
